1996 Royal Mint Silver Proof Collection

 

In 1996 the Royal Mint released its first set of British silver proof coins, consisting of the coins from 1p to £1. Although a genuinely uninspiring precursor to some stunning future silver sets, this seven coin set is memorable only for its magnificently retro crushed velvet presentation box. When issued the lucky purchaser received a voucher entitling them to a free curry in the nearest flock wallpapered curry house and a complimentary prawn cocktail at any Beefeater steakhouse.

I'm absolutely over the moon with this wonderful addition to my Crown collection- the Crown tray in my Cabinet is filling up 😃

Nice little gold edition received this week,

Californian gold rush nugget retrieved from the ss Central America which sank in 1857 with 9 tons of gold on board,

very tiny nugget with a huge premium but it’s worth it in my eyes,

The Newfoundland 2-dollar coin was issued in intermittent years between 1865 and 1888. It was the only circulation gold coin issued by a British colony. Although few coins were issued, it was broadly used in Newfoundland and eastern Canada. The coin became scarce in 1894 because of hoarding following the collapse of Newfoundland's banks and monetary system.
