    Today I Received.....

Received this 1989 Bu 5 Pound Sovereign to join my 3 coin set to form a ‘poor man’s’ 4 coin 1989 set! I haven’t bought any Sovereigns for quite some time and re-aquatinting myself with 22 Carat Gold makes me wonder why I had taken a break. I think grading these classic and special year design coins has its place- but these are staying in their presentation cases and going in that drawer in the dresser for safekeeping- you know the one, the one housing the best cutlery, the Irish Linen Napkins and the Elk Horn handled corkscrew.

Today this gorgeous coin arrived. It’s not one you see often as this design was only used for part of a year as it looked the same in size to the sixpence and when people gilded those they tried to pass them off as half sovereigns. I love the ornate shield designed by Merlen Looks proof like and of course will be graded by NGC

Received these wonderful 2020 1 oz The Silver Forum bars (#92, #94) from @BackyardBullion! Excellent addition to the annual series! Also, the seventh of eight in the Chia Re-strike series! Here are five handsome 2020 China 1 oz Silver Twin Dragon Dollar Restrike (PU)... Also, an added Wedge-Tailed Eagle to the Australia WTE collection with this lovely 2015 1 oz Silver Australian Wedge-Tailed Eagle High Relief Proof! (The coin is in pristine condition, with the capsule being scuffed) And a bit of US space history received! A 1988 Gold Space Shuttle-America in Space Young Astronaut Medal (0.24187 oz Gold). Congress approved legislation authorizing this medal; the bill was signed by President Reagan on March 12, 1986, becoming Public Law 99-295. The authorizing law specified that 10 percent of the revenue from sales was to go to the Young Astronaut Council's annual budget. The medals' obverse design was chosen from more than 17,000 entries submitted by YAC student members from across the country. Designed by Brian Kachel, then 12, of Jersey City, N.J., it features a space shuttle in flight. The design was sculptured by Mint sculptor-engraver Chester Y. Martin. The obverse design incorporates the inscriptions LIBERTY and the year 1988. The reverse, designed by Robert Ahlcrona, features a right-facing eagle, with its wings spread, perched on top of the Young Astronauts Program logo surrounded by stars. The inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and YOUNG ASTRONAUTS are incorporated into the design. Lastly, not a PM, but what should be a must for any Sovereign lover! A Royal Mint Gold Sovereign paperweight! This one is a 1984 dated Sovereign!

Good Lord! Received today all the way from sunny Blackpool- a beautiful 2017 Anniversary 3 Coin Sovereign Set- 2 Sovereign, Sovereign & Half Sovereign. A minuscule issue in this Premium presentation of just 450 sets. These three new additions will join my 2017 Bu 5 Pound Sovereign to form another 'poor man's' four coin set. @LawrenceChard your staff provided a first class service from the initial enquiry to delivery.

Some of the coins I got via the group order. Many thanks @BackyardBullion. Wonderful service as usual. Like the new printed BYB boxes as well! As featured in BYB's latest In Focus Friday episode... Funny story - I was sat watching the episode of IFF while my package was in covid quarantine for 24 hours (so I hadn't opened it yet). I was thinking: "What a jammy b*****d that got them kooks, wish I'd bought some". Completely oblivious that it was me... (I'd ordered in Feb and forgotten what I'd ordered). They look even better out of the caps And the rest

Courtesy of RMSD, the RM Silver Proof 2011 Collection. This set is greatly undervalued given the little-known fact that it contains two very rare coins. And not the ones one might expect. Another very attractive 925 example imo - and therein lurks my silver shieldback £1 quarry. Just two more to find.

Well I've only gone and done it! This is my first ever gold purchase to add to my stack! Took the plunge a few weeks ago and it arrived this morning courtesy of Bullion by Post! Was 50/50 whether this arrived before another little gold something (which of course I'll share when it arrives...hopefully soon 🤞🏻) I have bought off a forum member recently but this one won the race to be 'first in stack' Not the biggest piece I know, but hey, we've all gotta start somewhere. It is stunning though! My camera work doesn't do it justice.

Received these pieces today. These three sovereigns caught my eyes from the moment they were advertised on the forum, I’m glad they weren’t sold by the time I made up my mind about them, thanks a lot @UnoWho . Bought the other two pieces from ATS Bullion, I love the 22 carat versions of the Britannia and this 2010 one came in Original Mint Packaging as well 😜 I’m not a big fan of Queen’s Beasts anymore but if i were to choose my favourite Design of Queen’s Beast it would definitely be the Unicorn and this one was priced attractively as well, so why not.

Your gold story. How it happened.

Personally I don’t know anyone else who collects gold so I’m interested to learn how other people got started, their motivations and what it means to them. What’s your story? I'll start with my own. My initial fascination with gold started when I was a kid. Like many households we always had an Argos or Index catalogue lying around that I would flick through when I was bored. As you would expect I spent a lot of time looking at all the toys but it was the jewellery section that really caught my eye. I liked all the birthstones and gems but my favourite pages were near the end of the jewellery section, it was all the gold chains. I used to sit and stare at the weights, purity and price of them for a reason I can’t fathom even to this day. The first piece of gold ever bought for me was by my mother when I got my ear pierced. I got a 9ct gold stud and hoop. A few years later after a fair amount of begging at shop windows she bought me a half sovereign ring and my brother a full sovereign. They were either lost or sold I guess and my gold story goes cold for a decade. The financial crisis and great recession was my induction into the world of economics. I remember watching the TV as the queues formed outside Northern Rock and then like dominos the banks started to collapse. The government started QE and the bailouts commenced. What caused it? Where did this money come from? Who was going to pay it back? Pandora’s Box was open and my studies began. All the cash for gold shops appeared on the high street as the price took off - gold was more than just jewellery - gold shone bright once again. I seriously considered buying my first gold during this period but never followed through although my faith in the financial system was gone never to return. In the following years new terms and trends emerged. Help to buy, 0% finance, balance transfer credit cards, PCP car loans, early pension drawdowns and negative interest rates. I reasoned this was totally unsustainable, can only end in pain and it was time to prepare. I cleared all my debts then began living well within my means and saving in earnest. I knew what I had to do. I bought my first gold from the Royal Mint. Three and a half ounces of pure gold were delivered by post the next day. When I opened the parcel and held the coins in my hands I was taken aback by the density, the purity, the colour. It was outside the financial system, untaxable, free from manipulation. It was perfect. It was that day I became a goldbug. I’ve accumulated more incrementally and now it amounts to around half of my total assets. I’ve learned more about golds history as money and its universal appeal across ages and continents. I still don’t fully understand our love of gold which seems irrational but so is much of what we do. Gold is many things to many people but I view gold as the perfect way to store time. Immutable from government policy and excess in perfect parallel to its physical properties. I don’t care too much about price fluctuations because in the long run I’m as certain as I can be that gold will serve that purpose. During times like these it brings me comfort to know that I own gold and I’m sure I always will.

I would like to share a real life story recently happened. I am in the process of consolidating my Silver stack and I had 10 sets of 1 oz Silver Marvel coins. Several of the sets were sold on eBay/The Silver Forum and a Facebook PM group. I had a email from an individual whose friend purchased a set from PM Facebook Group and was not a collector or stacker of any kind and sent me his mobile number and wanted me to message him on What's App. I was reluctant at first because that would imply a stranger had my mobile number. I don't know why I did it as in the PM world the best advice has always been to protect your anonymity. As I had been recommended by his friend he wanted to send payment for a full set or 1oz Silver Marvel coins no questions asked. We exchanged details via whats app payment sent and I sent special delivery package to him. What I find out later on was that even though this guy (looks relatively young on his what's app photo) has no interest in PMs or super heroes he has recently come out of hospital and the doctor that saved his life is a massive Marvel superhero fan. The 1 oz Silver Marvel set will be given to the doctor as thank you for saving his life. I thought I would just share very uplifting story with the community.
