  1. Firstly, i've shed a fair bit of Gold weight lately to make way for a very special purchase and I would like to extend thanks to all the forum members who purchased coins from me to make it possible. You know who you are, and it was very much appreciated 😀 And secondly, and once again, thank you very much for all the effort, time and patience! That @SilverMike, @Roy & @Elements provided, in terms of helping to guide me into making this fantastic acquisition 👍😃 So, what exactly is in the box? 🤷‍♂️ It needs no introductions...

  2. A look back at 2020 Important Stats In 2020 TSF grew 62% faster than the growth in 2019 In 2020 there were 13,736 forum topics started on the forum vs 8430 new topics in 2019. This means that counting the new topics only, in 2020 there was over 62.94% increase in growth rate than in 2019. Similarly there were 118,321 posts on the forum in 2020 vs 73,024 new posts in 2019. This is over 62% increase in post volume growth when comparing the growth in 2020 and the growth in 2019. This large increase in growth rate is in part due to the paid advertising promotions that we ran

  3. I wasn’t quite sure where to go next after my initial foray into historic sets and to follow on from my purchase of the 1902 Edward VII Matte Proof Set. Decided on this beautifully preserved 1911 George V Proof Coronation Set- a tiny 952 10 Coin ‘short’ sets were issued. Once again, thank you to @Elements @Roy & @SilverMike who helped me decide 😀

  6. I didn't actually technically receive this, but... I went for a walk (local) with my dad and his dog today and we chatted for a while. He quite likes silver himself, in fact I got into it through him. On last weeks walk we got chatting about the Una & the Lion craziness. Today when we got back to his (I didn't go in, stood at the conservatory door with my mask on!) he said he had something to show me, then he produced this. Sorry about the photos but it was the best I could manage under the circumstances. 1kg proof. Gobsmacked. The most beautiful silver I have ever seen, let alo

  10. 2018 & 2019 reverse & gold proofs 1/2 ounce libertads Many thanks to @richatthecroftfor passing on these fabulous coins, whilst remaining in Yorkshire 😃. I thought I’d share some pics I just took. They are quite fabulous examples and real eye catchers. When time allows I will send them off for grading. As I am sure some will already know, but for those who do not, the half ounce gold/reverse proof for 2018 has a mintage 1000; that was the first year the reverse in gold was struck. Accompanying that pair are the 2019 equivalents, where mintages were even more modest 650

  14. RAM 2015 Silver Proof Giant Sloth Roo First published c1795 in George Barrington’s "A Voyage to Botany Bay", Vincent Woodthorpe’s hand-coloured engraving accompanied the description of kangaroos as ‘about the size of a common deer' was presented to a readership in no position to argue. The image proffers a masterclass in deception, unless one is to believe that common deer were at that time the size of trees and that kangaroo twins are not actually almost completely unheard of. Reminding me of a schoolbook portrayal of the Giant Sloth, I must confess to being totally be

  17. RAM "Seasons Change" Silver Proof Kangaroos 2016-19 When the Royal Australian Mint revealed the first design in this series back in 2016, my first feeling were of an overwhelming apathy towards an extremely "busy" design showing all the artistic acumen of a 'C' grade at art 'A'-level. Given some of the outstanding designs of earlier members of the "Skippy" collection, it was scarcely fathomable that such an uninspired fettling should have been selected to represent the initial offering in the mint's first ever quartet. It transpired that the three ensuing artworks

  20. 2018 RAM "25" Anniversary Privy Silver FrUnc Kangaroo This coin is something of a quandary to me, The RAM confirmed to me last year that the 2018 Roobar - of which this coin was a part- was released with a mintage of 1922 from a maximum 5000. I saw this coin available in two different locations...and so decided to make this my last VAT-free purchase from Germany. Needless to say, it got stuck in Europe before eventually limping its way home to me. I await precise information from the Royal Australian Mint, having fired off an inquisitorial missive in their direction. Still

And lastly, 1 oz silver from the Alaska Mint, 2020 Official White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad proof Medallion. These medallions are numbered and edged stamped, of which this is 028 of less than 100 minted. This one holds special interest to me as can be seen from personal experience... Wishing everyone on The Silver Forum a

  24. Gilded Silver Kangaroos 2004-2006 The RAM issued official "selectively gold plated" silver 1oz roos for just seven years, from 2003 to 2009. Although I am not a big fan of gilded silver coins, I felt that these seven just about merit a place in a complete collection...although I do draw the line at the felt-tip pen coloured cereal packet tokens. The actual mintages of all three were quite similar to their proof counterparts, - this translating into what I consider to be somewhat unjustified high prices outside Australia. In summary, quite an attractive set but on

  40. The 2013 Gold Britannia is an interesting coin. The 2012 was the last year they did Gold Britannia in 22ct and had dimensions of 32.69mm In contrast the 2013 Gold Britannia was the first one in fine (999) gold but were larger 38.61mm but thinner 1.58mm In 2014 the coin returned to 32.69mm like the 22ct but in 999 gold. it therefore has the curious value of being the largest (width anyway) 1oz Britannia made.

  44. Got this as one of my Christmas presents, a British 1937 dated coronation 1 crown, minted from .500 silver. This coin was last crown to be made of silver in the UK, and was brought out to commemorate the coronation of king George VI in 1937, it was made for one year only, with only 418,600 made. A very large coin, you would certainly know about it with a few of these in your pockets back then. Surprisingly this coin is still legal tender in the UK, having been revalued at 25p, though they are worth quite a bit more than this now, pics dont do it justice and the coin has most of its origi

    Today I Received.....

Happy weekend to you all. I received a new addition to my jubilee head collection. For those familiar with Iverson Hill Dish it’s L513 - 1891 half sovereign. It’s graded AU58 but those who look at the Ngc number might realise that it’s a very old number, more on that later. As someone else mentioned to me it looks potentially undergraded. I hope the pics I’ve taken do it justice. The former owner a collector of some note of half sovereigns had been able to upgrade this year and was prepared to let this one go. He had owned this coin for over a decade hence the old ngc number & perhaps w
