I’ve been buying junk silver since 2010. For no particular reason, my coins of choice have been Canada Dollars / Halves, Austria 25 / 50 Schillings, Australia 1966 50 Cents, Netherlands 2.5 Guilders, Italy 500 Lire, South Africa Crowns, UK 1935/37 Crowns. Prices have fluctuated over the years, but are noticeably higher in recent weeks. -

We certainly got an interesting quarter ahead of us Also got diwali to in November to push gold thanks to India -

When the state has a money printing press it has no real need to tax. Could just print/spend - that equally dilutes the value of all other notes in circulation (a form of micro taxation - pushed to extreme levels). The primary purpose of tax is state intervention to socially and economically direct the country/economy. Cigarettes are bad for you so a big tax applied ...etc. Why there is tax (VAT) on silver ??? The economy would be better served by zero rating that, or otherwise risk losing a big market (LBMA) that generates jobs and indirect tax revenues to overseas (where in many US states silver is now being zero tax rated for instance). UK taxes are at relatively high levels, the highest for a number of decades (since WW2), should really be being directed downward, rose primarily due to Covid. However political talk pretty much has everyone expecting taxes to further increase, not decline as they should be. Much of the public sector is wasteful, more money repeatedly thrown at it for even less in return, instead of addressing that the indications are that the intent is to throw yet even more at that. Talk of 2% additional National Insurance, but where the public sector will be paid more ... to offset the higher amounts ... i.e. the private sector only set to pay, and where often that's already disadvantaged - such as no where near the same level of golden pension schemes. The Bank of England may do what they did to Truss, opt to sell off a mountain of Gilts after the Budget, drive a surge in yields to levels that might even have the present government/cabinet driven out. Looks unlikely, but is a possibility and if so gold (silver) could surge in reflection of that. I suspect however that wont come to pass and perhaps more likely is that it will be more a 'phew' moment, not as bad as expected, perhaps with stocks up, gold (silver) down. Place your bets, a reasonable choice is 50/50 stocks/gold. BBP generally aren't however the most competitive priced, as ever its worth shopping around at the time for the best deals. One or more might have too much/little of what you're looking to buy/sell and offer a better deal at that time compared to others.
