How much did the the third party charge you?

@Hunter87 Good question. How long is a piece of string? It all depends on the coin and what options you choose. As a minimum I would roughly say about £25 plus and go from there. It all depends on what the coin is and what options you choose (special label, conservation, scratch resistant slab etc). A basic 1 oz silver coin is going to cost far less than a 2 oz gold 3 Graces with conservation. It is a bit of a rabbit warren but once you get your head round it, it's not so bad.

I wanted to grade on my own to understand the process and stages that are involved from end to end. Its not something I will do every time and will still use 3rd parties. It's definitely cheaper going through a 3rd party if you only have one or two coins to grade. I've used Numi and Coins of the Realm and no complaints from either. Both keep you informed if you have any questions and very efficient.

Hope that helps a little, if you've got any more questions then fire away..

  2. Just checked and my coin is now on the system, so 2 weeks seems to be quite good. I've graded many coins but always through third parties. To me anyway it will be interesting to follow the process and time lines as it happens and get the final grade.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to comment. 👍👍👍

  3. Just a quick follow up on this subject. I sent a package off to NGC UK last week, my first and they received it last Wednesday. Checked on the submission page and nothing is showing. (RMSD says package received)

Any idea from anyone out there what the time frame is before something shows on the system. I know the chances of the package not being delivered and signed for by someone else are slim but you never know and the old paranoia starts to kick in. Would it be anything to do with the fact that NGC only updates on  Tuesday?

I did also send them a email saying a package was on the way with the SD number. Didn't get a reply to that so I'm assuming if there was a problem they would have emailed back saying they didn't receive the package.

As I say any help on the next stages after posting would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

  4. The queue system seems to be completely unpredictable. I completely missed this the night before and it was only a news article that alerted me to this. I logged to the RM website with 2 minutes to go and got the Queue-it page but no number in the queue.  At 9am within 60 seconds I was on the order page and ready to go. 3 Graces I queued for 50 minutes and still missed out

Totally unprepared but hopefully bagged a 1 oz gold. Payment details went through fine first time, unlike 3 Graces. Missed the silver completely but happy to get what I got hopefully. Haven't had the "LOSER" email yet

For the next release i still don't know what I would do, jump in last minute or queue for an hour. Answers on a postcard please 😀

Try collecting the tombstones bars if your in the 😅 UK 5oz 10oz and kilo then you'll find out your missing the poxy 1oz gold and Scottsdale arnt shipping them abroad at the moment

I feel your pain. It was similar to that for a long time with the kilo usually right coin no money or wrong coin and right money. The planets will align in time 👍

  6. Silver PF70 up for grabs at Heritage Auctions in the USA. Absolutely standard with no special label or first release designation.

Current bid is $6500 with buyers premium that makes $7800 which is about £5700. Finishes on Friday.

Looks like there is still strong money around for that magic 70 grade.

I wasn’t quite sure where to go next after my initial foray into historic sets and to follow on from my purchase of the 1902 Edward VII Matte Proof Set.
Decided on this beautifully preserved 1911 George V Proof Coronation Set- a tiny 952 10 Coin ‘short’ sets were issued.

Once again, thank you to @Elements @Roy & @SilverMike who helped me decide 😀
