This arrived today among a load of Australian silver which has now found a new home straight away, its now my rarest silver coin (unless Krause is right about my 1944 Egyptian 2 Piastries), a New Zealand 1940 dated 1/2 crown, made from .500 silver.
This coin was minted to commemorate the centenary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi in 1840 in which the native chiefs gave up their sovereignty of New Zealand to the British Crown, the New Zealand Government authorised the issue of a half-crown of special design and they were made by the Royal Mint in Wales, only made in 1940 as a circulating commemorative coin just 100,800 were produced, but despite this they are a bargain buy compared to the far more common standard NZ 1/2 crown, which was made in far greater numbers and over a number of years, if anyone knows why please let me know.

2009 Royal Mint UK Silver £1 BU

In 2009 the Royal Mint produced the first of five consecutive annual silver BU one pound coins. Issued in a flimsy card box and an absurdly pliable capsule with the structural rigidity of clingfilm, the coin was an immediate and comprehensive sales debacle.

 

In focusing the coin on a somewhat questionable target-market of those on a quest for an imaginative 30th birthday present, we can only assume that RM advertising team must surely have been "moved along" pretty sharpish. If the evidence is anything to go by, they were, to a man, redeployed to the Quality Control Department.

 

According to their own website, out of a total maximum mintage of 50,000  just a derisory 359 were actually issued. I await confirmation of these figures from the mint. As my requests were only sent earlier this month, I expect  to be apprised in the New Year.

 

The happy result is that the mint's most poorly packaged coin, with the most ill-conceived marketing, has turned out to be the rarest silver definitive coin ever produced by the Royal Mint. 

 

The coin itself is a good clean strike and will make an excellent new addition to my Ag One Pound collection - which has an updated target total of 80 designs.This is the first example I have ever seen and I was delighted to snaffle it for a bargain-basement £25. Huzzah!

 

I still need the 2010 and 2012 silver BU £1 coins, if anyone can help. They were both sold in "Baby", "18th Birthday" and "21st Birthday" sets.

Like many here- a 2oz full house of the QB’s the Greyhound from Martin at SilverTrader.

And picking up from where @SilverMike left off- a reasonable condition 1921 México 50 Centavos for less than a tenner landed 😃 I’m not sure I have the stomach to pay down for the smaller 1921 Bronze denominations.

An email confirming you are aware of the statutory time frames, coupled with the confirmation that you will refer the matter to the Information Commissioner if there is no substantive response by ENTER (you decide - but I would given then 14 working days). Nuclear option, perhaps, but what is the point in having clearly defined statutory limits if they are just ignored by pubic authorities?

I received my silver chess set from @BackyardBullion and a handmade board from BYB senior.  It’s incredible, and they truly did an amazing job. The pictures look great, but they don’t do it justice. Right down to the weights and hallmarks on every piece, the craftsmanship is awesome. This is the nicest thing made of silver that I own.
