Ooh fab, thanks for that Duncan. I've put in some bids on London Coins auction for G6 double sovs. Full set is a bit overkill for me as I'm just after sovs, but it is a great way of filling a gap and I think they look great too. Also got some connections with SA having lived in Malawi a while ago.

Today I received a well priced and uniquely packaged 14toz+ of silvery coloured metals courtesy of @stefffana TY mate. Contents included BYB barter tokens a couple of mini skulls/alien heads? a silver shield round a St Helena round and a beautifully/not so beautifully crafted ornate crucifix. This lot was sold for melt but on reflection will only be melting one of the items, can you guess which item?

You are likely melting the cross, well you will try...but likely end up going to hell in a handcart.

I'd say the cross but it won't melt, it'll just glow and you'll melt instead. Be warned !!!

2002 Three Lions Gold Proof One Pound

 

The original UK pound coin appeared in 1983 and was also available in silver proof and Piedfort versions. It took some twenty years before the first gold proof was minted in 2002 - the year of the Queen's Golden Jubilee. As the coin was only offered as part of the RM gold proof 13-coin set, I had believed my chances of snagging an example to be somewhat remote.

 

A total of 2002 sets were released, so the number of "orphans" is likely to number well below 100. 

 

This particular PR69 specimen came up for auction in the US and is now safely in the hands of my friend and TSF legend@jultorsk, who was kind enough to take the accompanying photos. Another bonus was discovering that this is the uniquely highest PCGS grading achieved for this coin as well as the only Deep Cameo.

 

Shame really - if I cannot find another then I shall have to remove the mortuary slab.

Today was a good day, so good in fact I'll to spread the photos over a few days!

First the gold bits, the bracelets are 9ct, as is the mount on the half-sov. Advice appreciated on what to do with that, get the mount removed and keep it, or leave it and perhaps sell as jewellery?

Then there is a small amount of numismatics. If you zoom in and look very, very carefully, you might just be able to discern a small amount of wear to some of the surfaces. 😄. Incredible that totally blank coins were used as circulating currency.
I can't tell what some of them are/were.

My mum has a sovereign with that exact mount, which will pass down to me in hopefully many, many years from now. I've considered if I would remove the mount, but since it's been used as jewellery with a chain, it's been polished, so I may as well keep it on the mount. I wouldn't have parted with it either way
