  3. Today I took 2 sovereigns and the Turkish republic gold coin I had to a gold shop in İzmir. I exchanged 21 grams AGW for this 20.08g 22ct bracelet and 2000 lira, (£48) as is Turkish culture to give the bride. There are two, the first one is from me, the other is from her parents. The premium for the craftsmanship was very low. I'm surprised I got as much as I did for the sovs, considering they had to search up "büyük Britanya altın". They quoted about £40 over spot for the lot, which I'm more than happy with as I didn't need to pay anything else for the bracelet. The first shop we went to, they offered me 4000 lira less. Their way of testing gold was simply to drop it from about a foot, repeatedly. Then, they asserted that my Turkish coin (which I got from Auronum, so of course it's genuine) wasn't 22ct because it didn't sound the same to him as the sovereigns. My face went red as they dropped poor minty coronation and memorial Chuck onto the desk repeatedly. The second place we went to used acid to test them. The shops have hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of gold in, yet none of them have a sigma equivalent or XRF machine.

  7. If I'm not here at the end, I haven't hanged myself, big delay on the dinner front, useless oven. But, the timestamp will be used to determine which lucky user participating in this highly competitive bidding war has won.

  10. Ahh, so you want them to lose money so you can grab a deal? The price someone bought said coins at will heavily dictate what they sell them for. There are plenty of offerings going through daily cheaper than dealers, tenths are not coins you wanna be stacking if you're just deal hunting. Their premium is heavily built in. There's also an upside to buying from here if the dealer is price matched - you can see exactly what you're buying.
  11. Aladeeen number 3, from @geowill989 Features the older mosque design on the reverse with the switch to Khomeini on the obverse, later Khomeini heads use a more modern interpretation of the mosque. The reverse will be familiar to anyone that remembers the OG Aladeen, except that one didn't have papa Khomeini on. This is the way. Praise Khomeini
