Today I Received.....

Message added by ChrisSilver

The Today I received section is for private individuals to share items they have purchased for their collection / as part of their investment.

The Today I received section is not to be used for businesses to promote their business. Trade members and those operating as a business in the eyes of the forum are invited to enquire about a Dealer Sub Forum, where you may start your own Today _____ received topic to post your commercial purchases. E.g. The Today Chards Received..... topic.

I flogged an 1883 G&D to @SheepStacker a while ago.  Maybe reach out and see if he's still got it.  Been polished on the obverse but still looks nice enough.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

He's certainly up for trades - I traded it to him for a 1976 Machin, after he traded a 1900 Mourning vic to me for a 1980 Machin.  So, in the net-net, we traded a Vic and a Machin for a Vic and a Machin.

Also shouldn't be hard to find a 1871, and I know a chap who had a 1919P, I think - he may still have it.

. . . I do enjoy filling a tube in installments, much more satisfying than just buying a tube. It's also easier on the pocket!

. . . I hear you TSS, but I find it's not very cost effective - especial if one takes P&P into consideration. Perhaps I'm just pants at picking the right coins at the right prices!

You are absolutely right, over the course, it will cost a few quid more, but I don't mind so much. I do this because I enjoy it, not with an eye to maximum profit or indeed minimal loss, I believe it all pretty much evens out in the end.

Almost everything I buy will be for my kids, it won't cost them a penny so they will be in considerable profit and I have they fun of stacking and collecting.

I approach this as a hobby, not a business.

I'm with you 100% there mate. A few quid here or there, it's not an issue. All for the kids down the line, no one loses at all, and, like you say, we have fun 'saving' for them! Even my partner is on board. What's not to like 👍

Not often I give a super love but that quintuple is special.

Yeah, it's a beauty.  I've been over it with a loupe, and whoever graded it a 69 is seeing something I can't.  It looks perfect to my eyes.

I don't mind though, because I paid a fair price for what it is.  And one of my favourite sovereign designs.
