From The Royal Mint, I picked this up.  I'm becoming fond of this series, although I may just stick to the 2-ounces - seems to be the sweet spot for beauty vs bankruptcy.  (Not sure 'beauty' is the right word here.)

Send it over. I'll do you a freebie! 😉

I've tried that before; no one took me up on it.  Either my photos aren't up to it, or they don't trust me with their metal.

Either way, I'm not insulted, honest.

So, today I got a George V Sovereign -

Obverse

image.thumb.jpeg.b6d62a5be4ee89cafba3b84cabfa1dcd.jpeg

A bit worse condition than the Gillick I got the other day - some dings in the rim and a few scuff marks on the obverse.  Reverse is in better condition.

And really, really grubby.  Swabbing it with Isopropyl alcohol brought it up nicely, though, but a lot of grot came out.  @GoldDiggerDave might conserve coins but I'm just a pleb so I clean them.  Unfortunately I didn't have the presence of mind to take a before shot.

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

And I also availed myself of Tavex's PredatIntroductory pricing to get a bit of small fractional gold at a much smaller premium than one might normally expect.

Eh? I wasn't aware they did that, I'd have got the wife to register if I had!
Are you sure?

Take a look at their site.  They've got some small gold at fairly modest premiums.  I'm pretty sure it's introductory pricing to get them some market share (I think the parent company is Danish) and probably won't last forever.  However, as the saying goes, make hay while the sun shines.  As it happens, the family is based out of Indonesia for the next few years because reasons and small fractional gold makes sense there so it makes sense to get a bit of it.  Even if it's not needed it will still be pretty liquid here and the premium is low enough that one could likely get it back on the secondary market if one had occasion to flog it.

I won't tag them in but they are on here I believe.

Ah, I see. The Tavex branded 1g bars at £50. I did see those.

They also have 10g valcambi bars at about spot+6.5% and 5g valcambi bars at spot+8.5%.  I think it wouldn't be too hard to recover that if you had to sell back onto the secondary market in a few years.

Considering sovs are going at upwards of 8% spot by some dealers it's entirely possible

Lucky you, local pawnshop here currently has everyday sovereigns at £450! Best is a local shop that specialises in medals more than coins has half’s at £200
