First Charles III portrait coins

Even the limited release coins are being discounted! FFS! What was the point of this release?

If you are worried about what prices are doing in the first 12 hours then my advice - just don't!

What is very likely is that some small dealers will be able to get these coins using cashback offers or other such arrangements and can then sell these coins on for a small profit even under issue price.

Also, they get to grow their customer base and exposure.

The monarch has the final say on coins, of course Charles wants as many people as possible to buy them (apart from a couple of not-very-notable exceptions, which are obviously a very lame sop to collectors/flippers).

This is not about coins, it's about the monarchy (edit - upon which the RM depend on).

If anyone seriously expected any different I have a lovely collection of royal mugs I can sell you (coronation, silver jubilee, Charles and Diana, Queen Mum, etc).

£155 discount on the 2oz gold if anyone fancies taking a gamble on it - sold out at the Mint

Don’t forget an extra 2% discount for BT and debit card sales

Everybody expects a proof coin to go up in value.... It's all part of the appeal. Whenever I tell my family I've bought a piece of gold or silver they expect it to have made profit before it's even delivered. They don't get the concept that gold and silver goes up and down... They just think I'm loaded and stupid. It's laughable to think the majority of people only collect these types of  coins because they like them and not their future value. Gold is only valuable because it's a limited material. Again part of the appeal. Take that away and it's worth as much as a baked bean tin.

Until 2 years ago, nobody expected a commemorative proof coin to go up in value - you could barely give them away for spot. Slowly, we are returning to that state.

Having been in most of the RM queues in the past few years on release day, today has certainly been the busiest and most folk waiting to get on site

Strange however, consensus is not many have bought anything here in internet land

Its a funny old world, as are us humans who inhabit it isnt it ! ?🙄

Funny to think that these have an unlimited mintage for 3months yet they could well turn out to be one of the rarest coins out there 🤣

I've been at that state all along.

I buy coins as a collector because I like them.  Pure and simple.  I have never sold a coin in my life and I don't plan to.  When I drop dead and my extensive collection goes to my heirs, they can do as they please, but it's not my problem if the value goes down.

I was thinking this myself.

Could you imagine if RM release the mintage figures of say the proof silver 50p and it’s only 800. 😬

Unlikely, I know, but stranger things have happened.

A true collector.... Fair play to you sir. I have a small collection I wouldn't sell as well because I enjoy them, but at the right price they can be anybody's. There are other things I have that I'll let go of first at the right price for me but It all goes back into feeding my hobby as the same goes for a lot of other people. To keep this sort of hobby going some stuff has to be turned around or it gets bloody expensive. If you have the money and the ability to keep everything you buy then that's great. For a lot of us it's all part of being able to continue collecting and stacking.

I wanted to browse other sections of the RM website but there's still a queue system going on! Position 1059 this time. Not bad I guess lol

It goes down quickly.... I've been in 3times today. The longest wait was 20mins

While waiting in the queue, I got a nasty message that they detected porn on my computer and won't let me in.  I wrote back and told them that this is my wife's computer.

Well I think this is very interesting...

Assuming the Royal Mint set the available quantity of every "unlimited" item to 1 million, then the amounts remaining in stock means that they have sold the following quantities so far today:

  • 31,800 x 50p buncs
  • 37,400 x £5 buncs (maybe higher than the above due to it not circulating?)
  • 9,200 x 1oz silver proofs
  • 6,700 x 50p silver proofs
  • 700 x 1/4oz gold proofs
  • 220 x 50p gold proofs
  • 14 x 50p platinum proofs
  • 164 x 1oz gold proofs
  • 21 x 1oz platinum proofs
