Today I Received.....

Message added by ChrisSilver

The Today I received section is for private individuals to share items they have purchased for their collection / as part of their investment.

The Today I received section is not to be used for businesses to promote their business. Trade members and those operating as a business in the eyes of the forum are invited to enquire about a Dealer Sub Forum, where you may start your own Today _____ received topic to post your commercial purchases. E.g. The Today Chards Received..... topic.

Amazing photos, whats the secret & can you do them through slabs?

Check out the Sovereign Photo thread for more details.  Probably more details than you'll want.

Yes, you can get good shots through slabs, but there are some caveats.  You will lose a little contrast and obviously it's difficult to get an angle for depth.  And, of course, the slab needs to be in good condition.

1866 VIC OZ SOV – Arrived today from Stacks Bowers after 34 days in transit! Filling out my collection of Victoria heads, like this one because it actually says what it is 'One Sovereign' is it the only one?

Do I de-slab it? 606 in higher grade, 378 lower, across PCGS and NGC, she's looking for an excuse to break free! What do you think?

@Solachesis they are not hard to remove coins form the slab, just make sure you don't get sharp plastic filings in the slab potentially scratching the coin.........And don't use a hammer like I've seen my mate do mentioning no names.

And please also return the label to PCGS if you do. Otherwise the census won’t be accurate.

Will do, surprised how nonjudgemental everyone is, was expecting a barrage of 'don't be a bloody idiot'! Refreshing.

I do have a couple of other coins on the way that will be trickier choices. I keep trying to come up with definitive boundaries and then I buy a coin that doesn't fit. 'Details' no brainer, sub 'MS'?, outside top 10%, or 20%? Then you've got attributions to specific hoards or collections... list goes on.

Maybe I should just resign myself to the dark side? (I blame @Solachesis for starting the whole star wars kerfuffle)

Not around here.  We're more likely to insist you video the experience and post it on the forum.

By the way, I think you should video the experience and post it on the forum.
