Today I Received.....

Message added by ChrisSilver

The Today I received section is for private individuals to share items they have purchased for their collection / as part of their investment.

The Today I received section is not to be used for businesses to promote their business. Trade members and those operating as a business in the eyes of the forum are invited to enquire about a Dealer Sub Forum, where you may start your own Today _____ received topic to post your commercial purchases. E.g. The Today Chards Received..... topic.

what were they. going for out of curiosity, would love those

I still have them but they are not cheap, for my set of 5 it was $4500, the 2021s can go from $600 to $1000 each, the Mars and mercurial are between $150 to $200 each, I have mars but not merc yet, the 2020 is the first one and can go for $1500 to $2500, a lot for 3 oz spheres but they're limited to 999 pieces and thev2020s don't come up often...an expensive set to collect but beautiful.

Nice coins, been on with mine but raw in a regular 2x2 album...got and pre 1800s yet...cos they add up quickly...lol.. a 1798 penny is my only dip in the 1700s, crusty and still over $200.

I feel your pain.  I'm buying higher grade coins then I had intended to when I first started the set, but I get so much enjoyment looking at my album with these really nice specimens, that the extra cost is worth it to me.  My Draped Bust is a 1798 as well, and is the poorest quality in the book.  But it only cost me $30, so I'm very happy with it.  Looking for a Draped Bust half cent now, and that is going to be pricey.

I have the 1806 draped bust half, can't recall how much I spent, think maybe $60.20190430_084029.thumb.jpg.a8ce37c5096793d0ac4ef33dca368886.jpg20190624_211258.thumb.jpg.af40b9f1107bf041894471b11fe1e435.jpg

I considered doing an early American type set but the unicorn tail, dragons tooth and Jack frosts nose were not easy to find.

I just got a full album of Indian heads and flying eagles and am torn about parting them out or even more stupid...trying to upgrade them all, like my 65 peace dollars and blue marble planets,, silver chibis, isle of man, warrior women, etc, etc, etc aren't hurting enough.

Nice bit of history there!

Did you get the coin conserved when you sent it off for grading? If you did, do you think it was worth it?

Thank you. I generally ask for conservation, sometimes its done, other times not. When it is done, yes I find it does make a big difference, especially on these older proof where copper spots can make them look awful (they are almost always fully removed) and they can suffer from being hazy and the conservation makes them pop again as they were meant to. Sometimes, if the toning is nice and even and gives extra depth i’ll not conserve, but the copper spots are a bugger and for me they detract from the eye appeal.

Now this is where I made my mind up on these...... I hate the RM site for putting up stock photos, this i like and as soon as one of the dealers puts them on I'm getting one, I flipped around 50 No Time to Die bars but I might just get 3 of these to stick in my treasure chest... great pic
