Lots of people are selling!

I have noticed a lot of people selling recently (unless my notifications have changed)? 
Considering silver is cheap & so is gold - is there something I am not aware of with regards to the price action of both metals??  

Or are people broke from Christmas and need the cash?

Might be the Royal Mint that has caused a financial crises due to all the new releases

I’m not really convinced that a lot of people are selling, or even that the ones that are, are doing so due to price action. As others have said perhaps it’s because of the Royal Mint milking us dry at the moment.

Admittedly theres more traffic in the buy/sell threads thats for sure, but to me it seems that’s down to a couple of dealers making upto 10+ threads for individual items everyday.

There are more sales coming to the forum. There are a few who have fallen on hard times and had to sell - or they are raising money for other reasons. However the sales thread is being flooded with commercial sales, many coming from north of the border.

Yes there is a fair amount. After a couple of hours any ad seems to be bumped to the second page. I am not a regular seller but sold some bits recently to balance out the fact I overspent on a auction of pre decimal.

The rise of the amateur dealer is a topic that I wrote then deleted before posting because I thought it was rather controversial.

Amateur dealers bring interesting coins to the Silver forum, and keep a solid flow      of coins.

Have there been coins for sale that I am deeply suspicious about? Yes.

Average Joe lists a coin here, he would like to part with and it's on page 5 unsold and invisible before 24 hours is out and on page 20 once the bump brigade are out  sorry to moan, but trading here is not a bit what it used to be

I haven't seen many, maybe because I don't look closely at many for sale coins, but I'm positive I have seen obvious fakes.

Reckon some would be cashing in their PM to jump onto the Crypto dip.

One factor might be that people don't buy as much post Christmas as they don't have as much money at this time of year, so maybe completed sales are just generally slower.

I did this last year and kind of regret it as there is not much to look at. It's probably best to have a second fund.

Really? Wow! The main reason I choose to primarily buy from TSF (over EBay or Facebook Groups) is the community spirit and confidence that the members here are legitimate in their dealings.

I have seen threads where fakes have been discussed, and other threads where suspected fraudulent activity is called out.

Do you have examples of these obvious fakes? Happy to discuss in PM, as I understand we may not want to name and shame.

Are there any guidelines on how we should report / police fakes? Do we report it to the moderators?

Please can you show actual examples. Because TSF and it’s moderators take action against any such obvious posts as they would be reported by multiple members.

In general the community itself enforces the trade section, and I have seen many times where members post to look out for other members. TSF will also not remove any 'unsolicited posts' in someone's trade topic if the posts are genuine posts discussing the authenticity of an item, this is to protect members. We believe that it is good for members and sellers to discuss any potential issues openly and publicly.  Note that TSF itself can not validate the authenticity of any item for sale.

There is always some risk of trading which is why members must do their own research first as outlined in the risk of trading topic:

TSF has rules against excessive bumping and you can use the report feature so that myself and the Moderator are aware of any excessive bumping and can contact the OP to ask them to follow the forum rules on this. If you have any suggestions on how to further improve the TSF trade section please do private message me so we can consider your suggestion.

Trade listings quickly going to later pages is also a sign at how large the TSF trade section has grown and how many listings are posted in it. As outlined here in the look back at 2021, "7927 trade topics were started in 2021. That is over 21 new trade listings per day."

I think you should have posted it, or at least posed it as a question.

If an opinion is controversial, it is probably because it stimulates thought, and invites discussion.

If all opinions were unanimous, things would get very boring, and they would not necessrily be correct or well-founded.
