Imagine if the RM surprises us all with a platinum (meaning the metal) SotD Sovereign.

I’m still surprised they haven’t done it.

Maybe they’re planning it for the Platinum Coronation Jubilee next year.

The Sovereign is and always will be gold (whatever other ridiculous gimmicks they can come up with - some of which 'work', some of which don't - both of course, to some extent, depending on your point of view). There wasn't one in silver for the Silver Jubilee, there won't be a platinum one next year. Look to the other Jubilee coins (like this year) for different variations.

Yes, indeed.

They've made silver, gold and platinum Britannias and they've made silver, gold and platinum Queen's Beasts but the modern Sovereign has only ever been gold and only ever been 22k.

Technically, alcohol is a solution..

'It [socialism] poses a growing threat, however unintentional, to the freedom of this country, for there is no freedom where the State totally controls the economy. Personal freedom and economic freedom are indivisible. You can’t have one without the other. You can’t lose one without losing the other.'

"There is no such thing as public money, there is only taxpayers' money"

Let not England forget her precedence of teaching nations how to live.

I agree with you - the Sovereign is by definition a gold coin.

But that probably won’t stop the RM from doing one in platinum (if they wanted to) and calling it something. 🙂

The did this in silver in 2013 and called it a crown, although there was a precedent with the 1951 crown.

They could do a 22k sovereign where the added metal is platinum instead of silver and copper (if that’s even possible). Similar concept to the Ansell sovereign

Looking for 1981 and 1983-1984 GOLD Ghanaian coins

Why is it that in the rare times that I do manage to add items to my Royal Mint basket and then decide not to go ahead with the purchase I feel like a fool whos just lost money 🙈😂😂

I will try for the SOTD sovereign on the day at RRP if I manage to bag one I will be happy these make a lovely series to collect going forwards 👍

Imagine adding a 2oz gold gothic crown to your basket and then thinking "hmm, nah" like I did. Regrets, I've had a few!
