Today this gorgeous coin arrived. It’s not one you see often as this design was only used for part of a year as it looked the same in size to the sixpence and when people gilded those they tried to pass them off as half sovereigns. I love the ornate shield designed by Merlen

I'm just looking at buying one. Are there any mintage figures? I can't seem to find much info on these. Nice coin 👍

I am not aware of the mintage figure for 2019.  The picture does not do it justice.

Received this 1989 Bu 5 Pound Sovereign to join my 3 coin set to form a ‘poor man’s’ 4 coin 1989 set!
I haven’t bought any Sovereigns for quite some time and re-aquatinting myself with 22 Carat Gold makes me wonder why I had  taken a break.
I think grading these classic and special year design coins has its place- but these are staying in their presentation cases and going in that drawer in the dresser for safekeeping- you know the one, the one housing the best cutlery, the Irish Linen Napkins and the Elk Horn handled corkscrew.

A nice little set, I'd like to have a look at the 5 BU someday, you don's see that many...

Ah Ok so u was the lucky guy 👍

Just a bit. I'm pretty sure they're proofs as well. I looked at what the perth mint made in 2015 and they don't seem to have a high relief bullion coin. They have the 1oz silver declared mintages as

- Bullion (not high relief): 500,000

- Proof high relief: 3320 (plus a couple of annual sets that would add another 1k on top of that)

The European mint are currently selling the bullion 2015 for about €13 more per coin than what I paid for these, so I don't know what they were thinking, but I ain't complaining :)

Sometimes happy mistakes happen and I am so happy for you to have gotten them!

I was so confused when I was doing my count of items to make sure it all was delivered. They were the last things I had to verify and all that was remaining on my outstanding list was your two random year kooks.

Jammy sod, they are so stunning! I would have loved to open the capsule to show their true glory but I thought they might be proofs and didn't want to mess them up!

100% it is a proof. They are high relief coins, didn’t think EM stocked them as unable to find them on their website. They are worth roughly ~£45-60+ each currently, depending on the particular one and the country purchased in.

Well apparently they save them for people who just want any old kook and are willing to pay very little for them!
