Today I Received.....

Message added by ChrisSilver

The Today I received section is for private individuals to share items they have purchased for their collection / as part of their investment.

The Today I received section is not to be used for businesses to promote their business. Trade members and those operating as a business in the eyes of the forum are invited to enquire about a Dealer Sub Forum, where you may start your own Today _____ received topic to post your commercial purchases. E.g. The Today Chards Received..... topic.

A nice 1870 shield sovereign arrived today, a belated birthday present from me to me.

Well that’s my excuse anyway....

I’m struggling to see the die number, 83, 86 or 53? Who knows.

Love to know where you got those from @jultorsk I have been looking for crowns for ever in this site. No luck.

Yes sorry mate - not sure if it was the white balance or what's off with the color in the photo... but they're indeed standard bullion sovs. 🤔

Thanks @CadmiumGreen👍

Really beautiful photos!  The super macro shots really show off the detailed craftsmanship.  I can't imagine how they sculpt the dies for these coins.  Amazing... Thanks for posting.

So... does the artist stare down a microscope and tap tiny little chisels with a mallet (mason/sculptor style) to create an inverted version of their image??

To do a coin itll start as a clay model then a plaster cast of the original will create the negative then they will make copies of or the cast out of what ever material they use for the final mould to cast th coins
