Not much different from a century ago...one of the highest graded 1921 (ms65+), you can see the softness around the ear area which even high relief peace dollars couldn't mint, it was simply too high to get a good mint of,

I've heard the lack of detail around the ear referred to as a mushy strike. A clear tell tale sign of the high relief the coin was intended to be struck in. Definitely different when compared to a 1922 low relief which has finer details around the ear.

The very reason they pulled the high relief, the rare high relief 22 had the samemushy center, I've even checked out the highest graded 1921 peace dollar and it still has mushy, they just didn't have the weight to force the silver into the die, plus even lower force was killing the dies very quickly, considering the 1921 was only made for a week before 1922 they pushed those dies to destruction with only limited time to make them before they were dated out and then the rare 1922 started just as they decided it wasn't going to work.

An interesting history for sure. As of late, I have been studying the history of the Morgan dollar: the various mint locations, obverse/reverse designs, mint marks, etc.... Perhaps it is time I look into the Peace dollar history for my own amusement. About the only truly remarkable fact I know of the Peace dollar is the demise of the planned 1964-D Peace dollar due to coin dealers offering multiple times the face value of the coin before the coin was even released. Thus making it an instant collectible and preventing it from entering into circulation as was originally intended. I'm sure you know already, these were subsequently melted down and never released due to these facts.

I've never been a fan of the kilo coins, but this may have just changed my mind. That details is incredible!

Agreed. I was a little wary of buying such a ‘coin’ but was sold by some reviews and videos. Definitely a beautiful coin. 🙏😊
