I saw elsewhere on the net someone say what you said about the mintage being 1200, but on the RM site it says 1020. I hope it is the lower figure, as I have a few of these beautiful bricks; https://www.royalmint.com/invest/bullion/bullion-bars/archived-bars/una-the-lion-100oz-silver-bar-minted/

Yeah that's interesting, RM website at the time definitely stated 1200 mintage for the 100oz bar, all I can think of is that they made a mistake at the time & have corrected it to 1020.

Thanks @Petra. I'm more inclined to try GSP on my next listings.

One more thought, supposing someone tried to claim you sent them an empty box or a similar scam, would GSP still cover you then? I assume they don't open the parcel or anything. Maybe still best to get footage of packing the item before sending it across the world in good faith...

I'm talking from a buyers point of view here pal, US specifically I NEVER buy stuff through the global shipping programme its a complete rip off. You are by default using a middleman/company to do stuff that is totally unnecessary, I always ask the seller to send by USPS or whatever, its far cheaper. As an example if you buy a gold coin there is no VAT due on entry to the UK but GSP automatically charges you VAT then you will have all the grief of trying to battle with UK customs to get the incorrectly charged VAT back. Best steer clear of GSP IMHO.

I don’t suppose there’s any news on more engravers bars to come? You’d think the three graces would be perfect for it.
If it did come out, maybe the price of the una bars would rise? That said, there are so many releases for RM right now, maybe this one is on the back burner for a while?

When the Una & Lion bars were released RM stated they were the 1st of a 3 part series so something & it would make sense to me that 3 graces would follow Una & Lion. But it seems  they are very short on anything under a Kilo at the moment.

  4. @MJCOIN I'd say a fair price for it at this exact moment in time would be around £2700 I base that on the 100 oz Britannia bar being worth £2550-£2600 in the current market. The Una & lion 100oz bar has a mintage of only 1200 & is not for sale anywhere that I can see. Although the 100 oz bars have a smaller market I still believe it will command more than a comparable Britannia bar which again is more desirable than most modern minted bars.

  5. @Zhorro Interesting thread, the problem re PM prices gold & silver in particular is the FED. It is not in their interest for gold & silver to take off in price. They still want countries to buy their sh--ty fake bonds which are in reality no better than junk bonds, but the FED still has clout at the moment. & IMHO until China calls them out, this charade with PMs will continue. Basel 3 may allow gold to rise somewhat this year but I don't think it will make a huge difference to prices to the upside.

As long as the US government tolerate (& it is in their interest to do so) the likes of JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs etc etc to take the p--s ,this scam/manipulation re PM's will go on.

  6. Yeah it is very difficult to understand the commission is horrendous, most auction houses are charging a minimum of 22.5% & quite a few others 28.5% for buyers, if they do the same to sellers it is insanity to put coins up at these places, both buyer & seller are being robbed.

But I guess how it works is some old boy dies & family haven't a clue & just ship it all down to their local auction house.

  7. I've had a cursory look at ebay UK & a few of the standard 1oz silver proofs have made below issue price they are the usual suspects Bull, Greyhound & white horse & white lion. Rarer 2oz bullion are making strong sales & money ditto 1oz proofs although not at the highs of 3 - 6 months ago where some standard 1oz silver proofs were making triple plus issue price.

Could be a few cheapies because of Christmas but I see no obvious downturn, PF70 s in the 1oz proofs are still making very good to insane money for certain coins. Re 2oz graded & raw all are making good money apart from Greyhound & white Lion, those are my cursory observations

  8. @Silverman2U It's a judgement call, I've bought & sold high value items on ebay with no grief but you have to use your common sense.

Regarding your statement "So my dilemma is which would a spend even £8.5k here on a 2oz gold gothic crown (like the one @BackyardBullionrecently noted he had seen on eBay. I mean it sounds too good to be true, therefore it probably is no?"

It could well be true, close on doubling your money for laying out a few bob for a week is a superb return on your money & you have no idea what the potential seller needs or wants the money for.
