I am not sure what anyone else thinks but we thought the SOTD's came in really cheap boxes, so we though we would supply our remaining few like this. We think the coin deserves a proper case :

Box was the only complain I had about the  coun too...  really low quality

I don't know what to think about that tbh. I prefer the wooden box in all fairness but I quite like the fact the original box it comes in is different. Horses for courses I guess, anyone can pick up an old original royal mint box at a cheap price if they prefer it. Is it just me or does the COA look to big to fit in the box?

We cut it down to size with a pair of scissors 😀

Actually we also give the original box as well..

Oh dear, looks like Queenie's been glassed, off back to RM it goes - had a lovely chat with same lady I used for my previous return ;)

Surely RM must question the expense of all the returns they have to pay for.

Ok well RM have sent a replacement, nice low COA, I was hopeful but.....rather disappointed, can't live with this one either.

Screw capsule wasn't fully closed. Queenie's cheek no longer scratched but the reverse has numerous issues:

Quite a big ding on the body of the unicorn, missing frosting on bottom of the unicorns cheek, the swirl to the right of the crown, the bottom corner of the first 2, the rim under the 0, numerous small spots of frosting missing above the Mon Droit & the I of the DEI on the obverse.

Some can only be seen when you tilt the coin in light but once seen, can't be unseen.

Obviously I'm going to send it back, rang RM today & the chap said I could have another replacement as they always mint more than required. I asked if he could guarantee the replacement would be free of issues as this is already a replacement. He deflected the question & said to return for a replacement or refund.

Not sure what to do, am thinking of just getting a refund, getting frustrated at RM returns now :(

Always mint more? Try checking what goes into the capsules ffs.

Such a low mintages but they have plenty available for replacement which were also struck on the day?

I offered mine on here for rrp and it went to a good home, might be an option for you if dead set on refund.

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

I keep getting this feeling that when the RM says "Awaiting Stock" and the projected shipment date is a month or two down the road, the RM is actually waiting for returns to send to unsuspecting customers.  Just this feeling I get from all the discussions here.

My SOTD arrived from a dealer and pre checked.
No problems and with a simple strip of selotape across the top of the capsule from side to side. Laughably easy to do…and yes, I am looking at you Royal Mint.

Sounds too simple and less fun 😁

Hello everyone.
I'm new to this forum and got the sotd sovereign today.
The back looks very good. Unfortunately there are some minor damages on the front. What are your opinions on the coin. How do you rate a grading?
Many thanks and greetings from Munich

It’s a shame that they are there, but I doubt you will get a perfect coin if asking for a replacement. @GoldDiggerDavereckons he gets mixed results on grading, maybe he can chime in?

The mark on the left below the G looks a problem; seems to be a jagged indentation and possibly not one of the "smooth" dents you often see on these matte coins.

The one at the bottom on the rim looks to a be one of those black specks you often see as well. These seem to be baked into the surface and I don't think the graders take exception to them.

My experience was not so positive!

So thankfully the Royal Mint arranged to send me a replacement Sold-on-the-Day box without me having to send them anything other than an emailed photo of the faulty box above.

But this is what actually arrived. I understand mistakes can happen when relaying instructions to fulfilment warehouses, but I cannot fathom what could have caused them to send 4 of the wrong thing! On the plus side, these are the best quality capsules I've ever seen - they have obviously checked them very carefully before sending them out :)

Is that under magnification? If it can be seen plain as day with the naked eye then could be a send back :(

I have one tiny mark on both my ones, but i think a high number of these will not be perfect.

The amount of very bad ones people got here tells you that.

Despite what anyone else says, I really like the finish on these coins, I like the plain edge and the unique design. It’s a big premium to the mint and dealer but if you get perfect coins, I think these will do well medium to long term. My coins, touch wood, appear to be fine here, can’t say the same for other RM releases.

Comically bad. The Royal Mint has descended into a sheer incompetence. They can’t even understand the difference between a box and a capsule.

Another unexpected development - the replacement case just arrived. In which case, I have no idea why I was randomly sent 4 empty capsules!
