  1. Cheers, that's what I thought, I guess I will stick to arms trading instead 🤣
  2. A quick qyestion, does anyone know what the situation is regarding sending / selling coins to Russia? I think bullion gold is banned, but not sure about collectable coins such as proof sovereigns etc? Cheers.
  3. I have tbh and say a 2 coin set ruins the release for me as it did the petition crown, both of which rely on being reproduced in their original form and that is even more true of the Waterloo Medal. The medal has been produced before in full by the Royal Mint and there have been a number of other limited editions over the years in silver and gold which for me provide better value and a more acurate reproduction?
  4. Williams have got expensive, I have a 1837 @EF that you could have for £1750 but that is about as low as it goes for one in nice grade. Most now these are over £2k.
  5. This makes me laugh, they couldn't strike this back in Vicky's time gowd knows what mess they will make of it now 🙄
  6. So the coin struck to celebrate the work of Pistrucci, can't even manage to strike his name on the coins : Shocking, truly shocking and it's not just one of them either!
  7. The raised edge lettering caused as much trouble back in 1818 : "MY DEAR SIR, Saville Row, May 26, 1818. THE raised letters on the edge of the crown piece are so much admired that I have determined to make the coinage upon this plan, notwithstanding all the difficulties which present themselves. I therefore beg you will set Jerome and Harrison to work to make the collars of these pieces. I mean that all the eight presses shall be employed in the coinage, and collars must accordingly be made for them all. The greatest care must be taken to have every collar as perfect as the one in which the pattern crowns were struck. As the crown pieces will be of the exact size of the pattern, the collars may be made without delay. As we are free from work, we have no excuse for not making these crown pieces perfect, and by using the eight presses, and keeping them constantly going, we shall soon get through the coinage, which will be unique and inimitable. Pray do not allow any difficulty to be thrown in the way, but follow this up as an order which must be enforced, and upon which I cannot hear of objections. J. W. Morrison, Esq., &c. &c. &c. (Signed) Yours very sincerely, W. W. POLE" The edge lettering required 3 blows, and the coins were expensive to produce, but as you can see Pole was having none it.

  11. Anyone got an update on this? I see the original page has now gone, now just 'PAGE 404 NOT FOUND' I also got a very criptic message from my mint manager when I complained about the auction : I have spoken with the relevant department and due to unforeseeable circumstances, the responses have been delayed. ???
  12. Ithought someone else posted it, but here it is line by line : Thank you for bidding in our silent auction for The Sovereign 2023 Five-Coin Matt Gold Proof Set. Your bid is currently in line to win a set. In the interest of fairness, we are emailing you to inform you we have emailed the bidders who are not currently winning to allow them a chance to increase their bid. We are recommending a bid around the Low Estimate. We are sharing this information with you to allow you to also increase your bid if you wish. Kind regards, The Royal Mint Auction Team
  13. Not me, I had 1 bid that was in a winning position until that email, I didn't increase my bid. I have heard nothing so presume I was then outbid, although I have not heard anything official as yet.
  14. I have asked my Mint manager for an explaination, and asked them to honour my 'previous winning bid position'.
  15. Did anyone bid on these? I heard the auction has been a PR disaster for the Mint, someone sent out an email to all bidders disclosing who was winning and who wasn't, then encouraging bidders to increase their bids. That is not only against the principle of a silent auction its also against their own terms and conditions : 5.5 Each entry shall be final and binding once Bidders click the submit button. 5.6 Bidders acknowledge and accept that each bid submitted in the Auction is irrevocable and cannot be amended or corrected, even if submitted in error and/or notified to The Royal Mint. Someone is for the high jump, and no idea what RM will now do with this auction?
  16. No, we were told directly by RM, week beginning 14th March (for what is worth).
  17. Yes RM confirmed today dispatch of Great Engravers starts week starting March 14th - I just got to tell my customers now 😒
  18. I have been offered £975 for my 5oz silver, I think it was a fair offer, but as I like the coin I turned it down.
  19. What would B.P say about the Mints works today, what have they done to his masterpeice over time? George on the left is how B.P intended him to look, on the right is how he looks on the 2024 sovereign, I reckon if he was still alive he woud probably sue.
  20. I have sold my last 2oz Gold version, so I am out of the game, like many I much prefer the originals. I have no idea what these will settle at price wise, so for a bit of fun, I am going to ask you to guess what the final price wil be for this one on ebay : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204660898296 I think it will be 9k?
