Thanks, always appreciate your comments :)

About the 72 half, i was looking at the first edition half sovereign book, for london mint coins it doesn't say anything about the nose to T variant, but in the Sydney mint table it says:

"1872* Obv. Victoria's nose points to T in legend"  * This year only.

Does your newer edition show this in the London mint table then?

I only have the old one, same as you. I've never seen the newer one for sale and I have assumed there won't be any newer information in it any way. Perhaps that is a mistake, although I don't feel I've missed out on anything. If anyone has the newer edition and can enlighten me, I'd be grateful.

The 1872 Sydney variety you mention is the only type for that year produced in Sydney and as all the dies were made in London and shipped out, it's not surprising that some of these "nose to T" dies were used for the London strikes.
MM does not recognise this variety for 1872 London although he mentions a couple of 1871 ones discovered by a fellow collector, along with one dated 1870 in the Fitzwilliam museum.
Spink however, catalogues this variety for the years 1871 and 1872.

Nanjing Mint 4 X Buddhas/Temples (Emei, Jiuhua, Putuo, Wutai)  8g Silver Notes in a frame.  Mintage of 1080.   There is also a 1g gold version.  I was offered it the other day and by the following day it was sold out and I wasn't able to get one.

Thanks to Arshimo for listing them for sale here - otherwise hard to track down now: two lovely BU Perth Mint silver Swans.

Lovely details and I love that Perth frosted finish to the fiield. Clever way to avoid milk spotting.

Don't think it's that, you'd get it on the shiny bits and proofs. You don't see spotting on Perth coins full stop.

OK thanks. What I should have said then is that I have never seen one, known of anyone who has or seen a photo of one. However, it seems that no mint is totally free of the scourge. Nice to see them taking it so seriously though.
