I wouldn’t pay anyone 1.9% to manage my investments. I have received lots of mail shots from this company over the years…always very glossy and nice looking invitations. But, as an ex-IFA I do not need their services. If you have a specific requirement, there are plenty of folk on this forum that can probably offer sound advice, and for free!
If you have gazillions to manage that’s a different story, tax and inheritance planning is important, and needs to be dealt with professionally, and that may involve legal costs i.e. a solicitor.
As a side note: Has anyone ever had ‘professional’ financial advice and been told to buy physical gold or silver as insurance?..because I haven’t …that’s because the advisor doesn’t earn any commission on that advice…which makes me question whose interests they are really looking after!

The above is (hopefully), a link to one of the most interesting threads on this forum, everything you would want to know about LMU coins …well worth a read. @Centauri167
Having just looked on the Chards website (where I bought lots of my LMU coins from), they are sold out of 20Fr roosters, and angels (as always!), so demand for them must be strong.
I am sure if I ever decided to part with my modest collection, @LawrenceChard would be interested in making me a generous offer 😉. Although maybe not for the rarities…1888,1896 torches’ , which carry a significant numismatic premium.
How can you not want to collect LMU coins:-
Roosters
Angels (less the two rarities)

This update may not help @BackyardBullion unfortunately, but may be of use to those of you that import gold coins!
Apologies to FEDEX from me 😱…but not completely.
Having paid the customs duty to release my coin, I asked FEDEX to refund me the disbursement fee they had charged. To do this they asked for several pieces of information, none of which were in my possession…basically, they hadn’t sent me my recipient copy of the bill of lading. Having pushed this further, I have now received copies of everything to do with my transaction.
The paperwork appears to show that Heritage Auctions have put on a Tariff Code, although it sounds correct, was not the best one they could have used.
An hour later, and this is what I understand to be true:-
If we import a gold coin, it will be free from all duties if it is deemed to be ‘investment gold’ ..criteria below:- (excuse the copy and paste, I’m not writing it out again!)
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/946674/UK_Gold_List_Table__002__1.pdf
In the above example, we should use the Harmonised Tariff code 7189 000000. In this case, the coin should be free of import duty and VAT.
If the coin to be imported falls outside of the above criteria (maybe over the 180% of spot rule), then it may be considered to be an ‘item of numismatic interest’ under the commodity code of 9705 000090. In this case, it is still exempt from VAT, but will be liable to an import duty of 5%.
In my case, the coin I bought from Heritage did qualify as ‘investment gold’, but they provided the tariff details for ‘an item of numismatic interest’ in stead, which is understandable I guess!
Any questions about this ? Don’t ask me!…I’m done!😀

I read this thread a few days ago, when I discovered that Heritage Auctions (USA) were shipping me a gold coin using FEDEX!
And Hey Presto!…I received a notification of an import charge this morning.
It looks like they have not charged me VAT (got that bit right), but have charged me 5% import duty. The coin should have been exempt (5 Quetzales), as it is listed on the HMRC website as being exempt, and did not cost more than 180% above spot.
I have paid the bill, as I was actually relieved it was only 5%, and not the full 20% I was fearing. When the coin and packaging arrives, I will then have to go through the claims procedure at border force AGAIN 😠.
I was going to bid at auction on a few nice items (abroad)over the next month or so, but this is really putting me off.
Will update the thread if I get any useful information…wish me luck!

On the 1oz privy front, I can probably help…as I spent a happy year or two collecting them. I never found a definitive list of all of them, either on the Perth Mint website or anywhere else…and I did look…really hard!
I do also have a few of the F15 privy 1oz kooks, although not the last two years…I refuse to pay £100+ for one oz of silver! I also never went for the coloured varieties or the lunar. There are also the gilded kooks to consider.
I
The table below is what I consider to be a pretty complete list of all the 1oz privy kooks, most of which I will have an example of. It’s on an excel spreadsheet, so doesn’t import onto the forum easily. Here goes my best shot :-

I bought an angel from this company a few years ago. All I will say is, make sure you have great photographs of both sides of the coin you are buying. I had to get a PayPal refund for one of the coins I bought. It had a crack in it deep enough to get your thumb nail down!

Not ordered from them personally. If all goes well, there should be no tax to pay on importing gold, but our customs people don’t always get it right!...then you have a load of hassle....all part of the coin collecting game I’m afraid!

Hi,
Having checked..it looks like I paid double spot for the 1927 20 Franga, and more for the lower grade 1926 (I overpaid maybe for this coin). On the plus side, I only paid 20% above spot for my 1888, and that is looking like a great pick up:-
I do not own a 20 Perpera. I’m only collecting Peruvian Una Libras currently.

@Kookaburracollectorhow much are the 1927 valued at these day? I still have 2 of the same yr might consider swapping or selling for one I don’t have
Hi @Lea79 the value is entirely down to grade...if ungraded then much lower. I was looking at an MS66 last year, and it went for silly money...well into four figures. I don’t think I have ever seen one sell for less than £600, but haven’t really followed them recently...unlike @augur...he will know. The 1926 used to go for an extra £50-£100..
Maybe post some pics of the ones you have...

I don't believe you have two of them!
I'm impressed and jealous at the same time. 😉🙂
Where in Greece exactly did you one from? Was it from a dealer or was it a private sale?
Would you say this particular coin carries the largest premium among the rest of your LMU coins in your collection (possible exception the 20 Perpera from Montenegro) ?Hi...just checked my records. The 1926 Skanderbegu was bought from a small private dealer based in Thessaloniki (via eBay). He still trades under the name Agamemnon 2586.
The 1926 usually carries a higher premium than the 1927, which is odd as it has a higher mintage...5900 as opposed to 5000.
Out of all of my LMU these two are probably the most expensive to buy, but in the case of the 1927 it is graded PCGSMS64, so as a graded example it commands a higher price than a raw coin.
Two other 20 Francs coins come very close, if not higher:-
The 1896 French 20 Fr ‘Angel at Desk’ with the rare ‘Torche’ mint mark is extremely rare, and expensive to buy. I would say for every 30 coins of this date, 29 will have the ‘fasces’, axe mint mark. Unfortunately, I had to pay full price to obtain mine.
The other one to look out for is the French 20 Francs 1888 year date. The 20 Fr coins were minted in there millions, but not this one. I think the mintage was only about 28k. I managed to get mine from a French dealer for a little over £300. Once back from grading (AU58), it is probably worth double!
When the sun rises, I might edit the post to add pictures of the above two coins.

They carry such huge premiums! The 20 Franga carry a large premium..but my goodness they are worth it. I have a large, and diverse coin collection, and without a doubt...the finest coins in my collection are my two Skanderbegus
They do come up for auction quite frequently...I bought one from Goldberg’s and one from Greece... Although expensive, I do think they are worth every cent.

I have just discovered a new dealer for me to buy from (In Geneva), and boy am I happy to have found him.
NCG -Daniel-Jolliet.com
Really good prices, goods better than described, and great communication. Two new Una Libras for the collection:-
A superb looking 1962
And an extremely rare 1926 (only two graded by NGC)
-
Hi chaps...yes...a labour of love...sort of!
@richatthecroft...I am short of these...:-
The 1926 is on its way from Daniel Jolliet Sarl in Geneva...a dealer well worth checking out..he has some awesome stock, and a gent to deal with. Some of the missing coins do not exist, or just one example is known of. 1959 for example...a dealer (who I know) has the only known example to exist...one day it will be mine. Thank the lord they cost peanuts...if these were UK sovereigns, the prices would be way beyond my fiscal reach.
I have tracked a few of the above down, but condition is preventing me from buying...details grade coins are not my bag.
Hope the Libertad collection is progressing nicely Rich!
Regards the case @1817Karl, it’s awesome..holds 100 slabbed coins. I bought it from Mr 1967 (Gildeon), so don’t know of its original origin..this may help:-

Just for you @richatthecroft...The date run to date....although I do have another one in for grading, and two inbound from Geneva.👍

Gold Coins of South America
in Gold
Posted
@beacon
Hi, as to the liquidity of these coins in the US, I can’t really say, and I’m not about to go guessing. In the Uk, I would say I am in a small minority of people who appreciate South American (especially Peruvian) gold coins. As such, they would be tricky to resell at much of a premium above spot. My avenue of escape would be an international auction house, where the high grade coins do fetch good, and improving prices..even allowing for auction fees.
The above has been good news for me, as I have managed to hoover-up a large collection of Peruvian gold over the last two years, with very little bidding opposition..although that is slowly changing. That said, the Una Libra collection I have collected is for long-term, and I would part with my far less interesting coins before those, and boy do I have a lot of them😂!
