Three graces coin

Received an email this morning from NGC informing me that my gold 2oz three graces has been moved from the Express tier to the Walkthrough tier costing me an extra £120 in grading fees.

So my coin very recently cost me 5K and the Express tier is for coins upto 7.5K, so I felt the Express tier was reasonable . Looks to me that NGC are themselves cashing in on the success of the three graces coin.

Has this happened to anyone else.?

They base it on market value. I think £120 is a bargain

So that puts the grading at about £250 and if it was put through conservation then I wonder if NGC have set the fair market value which would be £20-25k and conservation being 4% of this.

Alongside this, NGC use the stated value for insurance purposes so not surprised they are correcting forms.

I think fair market value is more £30-35k. Sovereign Rareties have a PF70 in their April auction. The estimate is at that exact level.

If you grade, you add value (even with a PR69!) and I think the fees are absolutely worth it.

I want to send my 3G and couple of other coins to PCGS. My first time. Should i send them all with capsules and do they send them back?

I send mine in the capsules to NGC and they have an option for the capsules to be returned

I was selling mine there but withdrew it. They were going to grade via NGC and sell it for me but we had a difference of opinion on an issue and so it didn’t proceed. Mine is with PCGS at the moment. I’m still waiting to see what grade it gets.

Has anyone had a their 2oz silver graded

I was going to sell raw but people are lowballing me so I am thinking of conserving it and grading I just want to work out cost

I thinking the buyers are waiting for a drop in value when the graded drop in

What were the lowest and highest prices you were offered, if you don’t mind me asking?

But with the increased popularity of collecting in general, the low mintage, global appeal, there will always be a market for a 3g... Whatever that price may be...

And there's more to come from the series. We don't know for sure when the peak of its popularity will actually occur

Idk, I'm just optimistically speculating that this entire series can stay strong

With such a stunning design  (maybe to some tastes even more exceptional than the Una ,which itself is a very attractive coin) these are always likely to hold a premium over the issue price. I am less convinced that the very high premiums at which the silver coins are now being traded will remain in the long term , with quite a few of these being issued and the Mint maybe milking their popularity by issuing so many different size versions .

If only 10% of the 3000 2oz  coins are flipped, that means 300 coins that need to find buyers from those who have not already got one. I personally will be keeping my Three Graces to enjoy as a thing of beauty but if I was tempted to sell I would consider doing it sooner rather than later .

Just my opinion and of course I may be wrong.

I have send in the 2 OZ silver together with some other coins, the status is now "scheduled for grading"  For the value I put down €300, because that's what I payed for it at the Royal Mint a few weeks ago. I did not get an email yet that NGC would value the coin around €2500, because that what people pay for it now on ebay.

I believe NGC should use the issue price from the mint, at least till the "first releases" period has ended. Because you can assume, that most people that send in there coins for a "first releases" label. Did buy there coin from the mint or a dealer around the issue price (not just this coin)

What is the status of your submission?

Obviously, I have no idea what the future price will be... i just think that with the great engravers series being such a good theme, they could have the potential to rise further when future coins come out.

I am guessing the mintage figures are too low to feed demand, since appeal is global. But what do I know... just my guess...

Its difficult to predict where prices will settle for the 3G coins, I am sure the 2oz will stay reasonably settled around 2-2.5k GBP, as of now the 5oz Silver looks to be around 5-6k GBP, 10 oz Silver (The so called invitation only coin) does look like a 10k coin, but very early doors on it.

The Gold 2oz around 30k GBP and I think will stay at sought of level.

I am hearing around 80% of silvers are coming back as PF70, that might not help anyone looking to gain a premium for their slabbed coin. The silvers do seem to have a deeper relief, and probably look nicer than the gold versions? I think the gold versions maybe more spread so PF70 maybe a little harder to find.

One question is do you prefer your coins to be slabbed? I notice many UK dealers don't really go for, but overseas collectors do like their coins Sheldon Graded - Do you prefer buying them already graded or having them slabbed yourself?

Cannot abide slabbed coins however willing use where necessary I.e. looking to sell on and potentially increases value. I think it’s a very American thing with little real purpose. They will be offering a grading service for cornflakes packets next!

I agree , slabbing for selling on (depending on the premium/cost) but not if you are keeping particularly for the larger size coins that you might want to display from time to time -if anyone does that apart from me?  Although if I was buying  in the after-market  privately from ebay I would feel more confident in buying a slabbed coin, especially as most sellers don't allow returns

I slab pretty much all my coins. To me, it means if i want to look at them I dont have to worry about damaging them or anything. Plus, makes it easy to store and catalogue as they are all in NGC slab holders which are easy to store in things like safety deposit boxes and such like - the boxes and coa's etc just get sealed up and shoved in the loft or something out the way as I'd only need those if I was selling.
