Three graces coin

Recommended Posts

As a dealer I see most new issues, but in truth the Three Graces are simply stunning, there are so few of the 10oz silver and 2oz Gold that I think this is a coin that will stand the test of time. Yes prices may fluctuate at the slabbed coins come on to the market but I think they will all find homes and disappear from the market place with exception of the 2oz silver.

I am quite happy to hold these coins for a while if not for ever :)

There will no doubt be a new thread for the next in the series coin but I thought I would give a brief view here. I just have a feeling that it will be Wyon’s Britannia.

If this is true, will they change the name of the series to The Great Engraver?

For me the coins to own are the 2oz Silver and the 2oz Gold.

The 5oz gold is stunning. But it will be VERY difficult to complete the series in 5oz gold.

Same for the 2oz gold, £4k issue to £8k on Fleabay, to £12k fleabay, to £15k, to £18k fleabay, to £29k at auction, to £59k at auction to £80k at auction in Japan and none spotted for sale since under £80k

Do you have the link for the auction in Japan where it sold for £80k? I can’t find it anywhere...

Sovereign Rarities has a 2oz good Una PF70 coming up at auction in a couple of weeks. It’ll be VERY interesting to see what that sells at. AMAZING if it crosses the £100k mark. It is one to hold on tightly for years to come!!

i dont have a link directly for it myself, it was mentioned on a facebook collectors group i read

One of the Mods of the group, was who mentioned it, who lives out there in far east so has knowledge or markets/auctions/dealers over there to

The guy is held in high regard on the FB group so no reason to not believe him

The Sovereign Rarities sale will be a nice one to look forward to see what it sells for at the end of April, their estimate however doesn't seem so optimist

PF70 Est £30,000-£40,000

What I find with most auction houses is that the estimate means very little. With the bigger auction houses, I usually take the estimate, multiply it x2, and a bit more on top... and that is likely what the hammer price will be.

Heritage Auction estimates on coins are usually far lower than the actual final amount once the hammer strikes down.

My guesstimate for the 2oz gold Una is £95k.

If it breaks £100k ! ??  lovely :) @Frenchie

How which exposure does sovereign rarities have to to the global market and what sort of prices have unas realised in their sales before? If they have a similar size/bigger client base than coin cabinet I’d expect £70k + for the una.

it makes sense them keeping the estimate on the low side so they can exceed the estimate, entice more buyers in and exceed sellers expectations.

I have been lucky enough to see the 2oz, 5oz and 10oz silver Three Graces and the 2oz gold. In my humble opinion the 10oz silver looks the best.

I got the 1kg yesterday 🤩 was going to get a 10oz but picked up the lower mintage 1kg for a little more 👌

With thanks to @ExpatBrian  😃

Happy to point you in that direction 🙂

The big question: do you plan on having it graded or leaving it raw?

Might leave it raw for now and maybe grade in a few months. 🤷‍♂️

How about you?

I tend to have all my coins graded. I prefer the safety of the plastic coffin. Although it may take several months before a grade is returned.

Like you, I may wait a bit. I submitted a few coins to NGC nearly 3 weeks ago and they have yet to be registered on their system. I called them up and they are very busy... so my coins are sitting in their safe, waiting in the queue.

Yes, we have had a last minute entry! Lowest start price I've seen of just £8500  - (Most ebay coins advertised at £11k+)

Hope to see some Silver Forum Members there tomorrow!

This last minute entries are common for our auction lol!

Regards

Louise

PS Where are you auctioning yours Andrew?? Pray tell?

Cheers @CoinsOfTheRealmAuctions. Hope you are well!

Mine will be with Coin Cabinet in either their April or May auction (not yet clear as to which has been selected). You make me feel bad for not offering it via your platform. I may regret that depending on how well it does tomorrow! I have an ongoing relationship with TCC and they have obtained some excellent prices for me recently.

Good luck with the auction tomorrow and perhaps you can do something to prevent further bids on the 1825 penny?? Haha!!

Don't feel bad Andrew, everyone has the right to do what they want with their own coins - Just don't do it again lol!! Just kidding. Yes they have been achieving very high prices especially on the modern.

That Penny is much better than the images portray - I just couldn't get that mirror finish it exhibits to come through on the photo's.

Dig Deep I'm sure you have deeper pockets than most lol!

Hopefully we'll get some well earned results tomorrow.

Best regards

Louise

The 10oz Three Graces didn’t sell today! Gutted for Coins of the Realm and for the consigner. I thought that would sell. I imagine it will likely be in the next auction or perhaps go for grading. Will be interesting to see what happens at the other auctions this month at Sovereign Rareties and Coin Cabinet. Sovereign Rareties don’t have a 10oz and I don’t know if Coin Cabinet will or not...

I had a bit of a family emergency today which meant I wasn’t able to concentrate on the Coins of the Realm auction and missed most of it. Sad times. The coins I was watching went for above my strict limits (£2,040 for the 1825 Penny and £1,200 for the 1817 half) and so it didn’t make a difference. Also some of the raw sovereigns did really well...surprised me.

Interesting that the 10oz had no bids, but I really think those who wanted one have one by now or have instead ordered on the 1kg versions.

Do people think the auction would have ended above £8,500 had it started at £1 or similar (as Coin Cabinet do with silver)? It’s often a thought I have on EBay - whether to start at a £1 or at the price I want to get. Often when starting at a £1 my coins sell on eBay for more than I expect and when I start at what I expect they often receive no bids.

Interesting times for the 10oz Three Graces. It is perhaps not a very good time to be selling one, it seems.

Yeah, I think once some folks have made an initial bid on an auction item, they have some commitment and at times go above what they were initially prepared to pay in the end. Likewise a “high” starting price can stop initial offers at times.
