Just horrible. Who sends only such coins.
    Max

Just completed a date run of these 20 Francs coins...but the collection is not complete...

am missing an 1896 ‘Torch’ engravers mark.

Already aware of one at Gadoury

    Go for it 😉

  3. Lovely pickup! The 1887 probably depends on the graders’ mood: either MS or Details but if it isn’t deep rather MS

Nice to compare the two 1879’s now I have both.

Below is the standard Anchor...a bit like a round blob on the end if you ask me!

The one acquired today has two distinct bars on the end...

I have no idea if one is rarer than the other...if you do..please let me know.

Interesting question: neither NGC nor PCGS make a distinction in the census; I suppose Gadoury does not make this distinction either.

In theory no 1879 coin should bear the mark of Albert Désiré Barre (died December 1878) but the one you show below of his brother Jean Auguste Barre. They clearly used the dies they prepared already in 1878 but with the low mintage of the 1879 vintage they probably didn’t make many with the new mark; at least that is what I would conclude from your difficulty to obtain one.

Ummm..I could be wrong (most probable answer), but I thought the 20 Perpera from Montenegro was only minted in 1910, and there is no 1912.?.....I hear Ibruprofen helps fight Alzheimer’s @augur... shall I send you some ?

PS Don’t forget you owe me £20,000!😃💰

You are right, it is 1912 – it is clearly getting worse.

Now where did I leave those 20 grand? 😂

I think it's an E over a much higher E, because I've seen the error on a different date before and you can see the top of the E but the rest looks exactly the same

Yes, clearly visible on the picture; half an E in but much higher

Did the other strange letters (I believe R and G) have a similar cause?

I'm curious... what do you think of the 2019 design? It seems to be quite popular, and I also like it a lot. None of the other very recent Britannia proofs have convinced me so far, but the 2019 stands out. Time will tell in later years if it will become one of the iconic designs, or just a forgotten one. I think the addition of the lion in the design is a plus.

The nice thing about the Britannia series is that there are designs to suit many different tastes. In terms of plasticity of the allegory I favour the 2014 and 1987 original design. In regards to modern reductive depiction the 2001 and 2003 stand out to me and @gazer. I think there is little not to be liked and even the greatest hater of the 2017 design @RegalStacker has come to terms with her.
