I agree.  The 20 franga coin is by far my favourite coin of the series.   They are beautiful and worth the premium.  I have one more coin to go to hit 30 different coins of the LMU..... what to get that’s the question 🧐

    The Platinum/Faso 20 Franga or a babyface/childface Alfonso XIII 20 Pesetas?

My two children are reunited..1967 Una Libra No2 just back from grading:-

    [...]

The grade was a real surprise...

At time of going to press...412 Una Libras have been graded by NGC, and only one previously has been graded as Proof Like! Hence the happiness with the grade...

I wonder which lucky Llama herder might be in possession of the other proof like designation.

I traded an absolute fantastic example of an ABC bar with @augur for a Gold Libertad- The swirl effect amazing.   I now regret this trade but at the time it served a purpose.  If he has a photo of it, perhaps he might post it here to exemplify just what I mean by fantastic 😃

It is a lovely piece and I was in luck that at that moment you wanted the Libertad more than anything...

Thank You Richard, It sure is a beautiful bar. Harry’s are lovely bars in fact all Australian bars seem to have beautiful pour lines & I agree most can’t be justified with just pictures alone 😋

Maybe @augur can share it with us 😜😉

I still marvel those Drijfhout & Zoon bars you had for sale once 🥰

Many thanks for your inputs gentelmen, please see attached pictures for the issues raised.

There seems to be a nick on the left chest side of the horse, rather than anything else, for the date I tried to take as clearer pictures as I could

    Thanks again much appreciated

Best to compare with the reference image. The left foreleg is also missing a blob. Could be struck through grease or a copy. Try to compare under a loupe or return for replacement if unsure.

Please bear in mind that this thread is for rare errors and overstrikes and not for fake identification. You can open your own thread if you are unsure about the authenticity.

Hello gents, I am not very savvy with sovereigns, I have received a few recently and all seem to be fine. Sound and weight is correct but diameter is off any ideas?

Should I send it back as this is a 1980 sov and I wouldn't expect a coin to be off by that much, but on the other hand I wouldn't expect them newer sovs to be counterfeited, press or striking error maybe?

    Weight:8 gr

    Width 1.43 to 1.56

    Diameter varied

The chest of the horse looks dodgy and the date doesn’t appear to be sharply struck either. Could be fake

Yesterday I bought this at $580 from a local seller.  I usually destroy slabs since I don't like them, but I decided to leave this alone because it will affect the value pretty much due to its high grade.

I also got a NGC MS63 1925 20 Zlotych at $500 which is a steal(it will arrive next week because of holidays) , and I will free the coin since almost all of them are in uncirculated condition.

Wow, I’d rather say your 20 Lei is a bargain. Difficult to find at that grade and usually at a high premium.

  7. I personally believe that MS and AU gold coins benefit from improving their presentation. All care has been taken to not cause any physical or chemical damage to the coins.

In this case the 1910 was simply undergraded.

  8. sent for regrading via @Numistacker with a nice uplift:

Venezuela 1886 (low 6) 20 Bolívares (Caracas Mint), previously XF45 – now AU53. The yellow greenish hue is caused by the silver and arsenic in the alloy which was sourced from local mines.

Venezuela 1910 20 Bolívares (Monnaie de Paris), previously AU58 – now MS62. The 1910 issue often presents with little lustre on the fields from repolished dies, which can be confused with wear; the photograph is actually misleading as the coin in hand is much more dull except for the devices.
