Royal Mint - Great Engravers 2021 - Gothic Crown information

Recommended Posts

A lot of listings are uk only on the gothic and a big part of the market is overseas. Then combine this with the fact they are 4-5 figure sums for raw with the chance of being impaired, obscure poor pics mostly too and the market reduces even further. Graded ones will set a figure and then more uk buyers will be interested in taking a punt on a raw if there’s enough upside to grade and move on.

I just received a silver coin I ordered from Monnaie de Paris (French mint).  The coin was expertly packaged.  When I open the box and the coin case, I noted that the coin was perfectly centered in the case, the capsule was intact and tight, and the coin was in perfect proof condition.   It's good to know that France's QC is alive and well!  They produce a lot of coins but not as many as the RM.  And, therein lies the answer.  You need time to do QC.  With so many coins rolling off the presses, there is no time for QC in Llantrisant.

The royal mint must be more akin to a busy production line than anything we would like to imagine.

how do they get in the capsule ? They are placed there by hand. I bet that is where half the damage occurs. Clumsy underpaid workers who cant afford half the things they pump out.

Id even go as far as to say they dont care judging by the glass door reviews.

Received my 2oz silver Gothic portrait today after a 2 wks wait.

  loose capsule - ☑️
  missing frosting - ☑️
bottom capsule stucked to the box's base - ☑️
skipped a heartbeat when the coin almost fell off- ☑️

Thankfully, there is no major damage to the coin after the unboxing commotion... 😌

That was a real thriller/horror story... with a "they all lived happily ever after" ending! Bravo! :D

LOT 20

2021 THE GREAT ENGRAVERS 'GOTHIC QUARTER ARMS SHIELD' GOLD PROOF 2oz 200 POUND

CONDITION

PROOF- NOT FDC/ PLEASE REFER TO VIDEO

We do not consider this coin to be FDC, there are a number of minor hairlines to the obverse in the field which prevent it from achieving the holy grail 70

Proabably a werid time to mention this, with the gold price increase today I was looking through the increase in royal mint rrp for gold proof coins after release and see if that coincides somewhat with the spot market.

Has anyone noticed that the 2oz portait actually had a increase in rrp when it was released early this month as well, I though the quaratered arms was 4995 and the portait I believe was 5120. I only remember seeing mentions of the 5oz gold's rrp increasing for the second coin, so I might be mistaken.

Replacement portrait received today. Slight marks on Victoria plain fields. I really think they are recycling others returns here now. Not sure what to do now, probably end up with worse if send this back. This should not be occurring on £260 coins. The coin is beautiful but the marks detract. What are others doing?

I haven’t received any of the Portrait version that I ordered yet and I am still waiting for the 5oz silver Quartered Arms - first delivery and not even a replacement! It is becoming a bit of a joke. I have had so many promises about the Quartered Arms which have not been met that I have lost track, the most recent being earlier this week. I sent another email this morning and didn’t even get a response. All so disappointing.

If you find a reasonable price from a dealer, you may want to go that route, and just send the coin back to the RM for a refund.  If you do end up buying from a dealer, I would write to them and ask them to please inspect the coin prior to shipment and explain the problems you've been having with the RM.
