Today I Received.....

Message added by ChrisSilver

The Today I received section is for private individuals to share items they have purchased for their collection / as part of their investment.

The Today I received section is not to be used for businesses to promote their business. Trade members and those operating as a business in the eyes of the forum are invited to enquire about a Dealer Sub Forum, where you may start your own Today _____ received topic to post your commercial purchases. E.g. The Today Chards Received..... topic.

There was 'nothing' on the second floor for me, as for the Sov's only two dealers had any bullion ones

What's the prices like at these fairs for bullion? I've never been to one because I feel like there would be a bit of a mark up at them. Or am I just being cynical ?

OK.... surprising. I'm tempted to go to one this summer if I'm able to. Just for the craic and see what they're like. And possibly meet some forum members.

Gadzooks!  Somebody actually using coins for money!?

Aren't we just supposed to post them to each other these days?

The Sovereign is the quintessentially British coin.  It has a German queen on the front, an Italian waiter on the back, and half of them were made in Australia.

The ones I found wanted £390, £400 and £425.  There was one flogging shields for £450.  Next time I'd probably try to have £1-2k available to spend, and would probably be able to come away with a reasonable amount of stuff that was worth buying.

There were loads of rare coin types there - lots of high-premium stuff.  I saw one vendor with a whole tray of George III, George IV and William IV sovs, mostly in pretty good nick with hefty price tags, plus loads of outfits flogging world coins of one sort or another.  Lots of slabbed coins on show, plus ancient and medieval coin dealers through to outfits flogging base metal coins to collectors.

According to their web site there's one in Birmingham next week.

As a random aside, what's the purpose of hiding the numbers on NGC capsules?  I think I may have even done it myself once, but only cos everyone else seems to 🤣

Stops counterfeiters producing geniune serial numbered slabs, with fake coins. And it's actually a thing, because I had one a few years ago. Checked out on website, but coin was blatantly fake.

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

Shouldn't you hide the Barcode too in that case? 🤔 if someone has a barcode reader, I'm guessing they could read the number...?
