NEW St. George and the Dragon coin with Garter inscription

Recommended Posts

Just got my replacement 5oz back, it has a really obvious brown spot above his head.(some sort of oxidation?)

Is it worth sending back? Otherwise I'm happy with the coin.

Still waiting for my 20z gold from Brittannia Coin Company, no idea what they are doing.

Getting a decent coin seems such a drawn out and tiresome process these days.

Spot may likely get worse tbh. Send it back.

I like to buy the pre-dip dip

Thanks for all of your opinions - I'll send it back for a replacement.

I haven't received a decent coin yet, and the Royal Mint has already sent out the email for the next one (waterloo medal). Crazy!

What is the inscription like? Half frosted, half polished and any scoring?

Guess it’ll be third time lucky.

The amount of returns, you have to ask how many over the 450 did they Mint to cover substandard returns.

I’m thinking the same, due to all these returns.. are they now over producing??

So my replacement 5oz comes tomorrow and I’m already clicking on ‘Returns’.
This is where we are, instead of being excited on a beautiful coin, I’m apprehensive and dreading opening it to be disappointed again.

All joking aside, this is not a good thing.

Due to the poor quality of the coins I received last year, gold and silver because I returned and finally cancelled the orders after waiting more than 3 months for replacements, they said I have lost my account manager due to not spending enough.

Then they ring me to ask if I would like some set they have made up to clear out old stock.

I have now decided to buy the coins after they have been graded, saves all the stress.

New arrival. Nice coin!

I zoomed in, its a lovely coin but there is a big milky spot.

However, if you are OK with the milk spot enjoy your coin regardless of it's milky spot. I'm expecting mine to have some when it gets back from grading so I get to keep mine (outside of returns period now) and enjoy it milky spots or tarnish regardless.

If you have to magnify massively to see a defect is it really a problem? Each to his own I guess, but the proof coins I have ordered from RM seem all fine compared to what others on this forum think. The RM makes some amazing coins and this is one of them. Britannias and milk spotting is another matter.

If you are magnifying at a higher resolution than the infamous Royal Mint quality department then they are going to miss any problems and as you say is it really a problem as you take a normal view of a coin and see no problem? Milk spotting is a problem also found with other mints silver coins ….🤔

True but its an issue they should be trying to resolve. I have plenty of RM coins without milk spots, most of which are from the 1990's to 2000's since 2010 it has become more and more an issue on coins I have bought that were made by them. If they can produce coins without the process is good and they have purified the metal well enough, if they haven't they should be actively melting it for bullion only and trying again. Or at least be changing their quality control methods so that they can pick up issues early and remove coins to be remelted and replaced with a good minted coin for proof issues.

The whole arms length check must go, how is it they can't bring a coin closer to their eyes in the same space of time to do a quality check, why arms length,

Finally got my gold - what disappointing quality. Edge fining (correct term?), blue grease on the edge, and Pistrucci's name is half missing!

😭

Apart from that it's a stunner. Ha

The blue thingey on the edge is just bad. So sorry on your account for what should have been a lovely coin and a happy experience. 🙁

I hope you made it clear that you intended to spend more, but due to the quality they produce you have reduced spending with them directly.

I'd love to look at buying the GE series direct from the Royal mint with joy for collecting, but it's more stresses than pleasure with getting a coin you'd want to keep. Secondary market will be where i make my purchase in time :)

I can't believe my luck tbh - sent back my 50z silver to the mint only yesterday!

The gold is on the coin dealer I bought through as well though, as they even said they check them before sending them out.

Anyway, preaching to the choir here haha. 👍
