  1. I know this is probably off topic, but do people have any view on the East India Company versions of the Great Engravers? Like there is an Alderney or St Helena version of Una and the Lion, is it noticeably lesser quality compared to the RM version? I have a St Helena version of the Three Graces, and while that might be a realistic one to get from the official RM version, I don't think I can ever justify a couple of grand for the RM version of Una and the Lion in silver.
  2. Wow... I guess I don't really need to buy anything further from the Royal Mint. To be honest most of their series are not of interest and it's only the history of the place that makes it worthwhile. The monarch series and the great engravers are the only things I've bought that I'm glad I did.
  3. Do you have any more information, or is this some subtext I'm missing, so if the RM says it's paused that means they've cancelled it but they don't have the guts/decency to say so?
  4. I've been following how this series is going on the secondary markets, seems like it's going as well as any other modern series. George III was due this year, how about they use the Obverse of the Pistrucci My copy has obviously seen better days of course
  5. Royal Australian Mint for this one - it's cute but comes in a massive box for some reason. I'm going to have to give up buying new coins at this rate because no room to store the boxes
  6. Weird one but it's still silver so hopefully in scope! I like cut half pennies because they are a conversation starter. This one is from ****. Lol... apparently the censors assume the Danish King of England's name is an anagram of some other word...
  7. If you have to magnify massively to see a defect is it really a problem? Each to his own I guess, but the proof coins I have ordered from RM seem all fine compared to what others on this forum think. The RM makes some amazing coins and this is one of them. Britannias and milk spotting is another matter.
  8. I don’t think so - don’t know if you can buy directly from the Perth Mint but people were saying the mintage figures were for global
  9. I agree, but out of my price range in platinum 😉 No indication that its coming in larger sizes
  10. Release day at The Perth Mint - 125 years. The same design is available in bullion Silver, Gold, Platinum and proof Silver and Gold
  11. I hope you're right. It does give some cause for optimism. I think they should shake up the order so that a few better known monarchs come first. Like George V effigy used on the Waitangi Crown (NZ) would be popular. Or George III dressed as a Roman Emperor. I'd post links but I'm not sure if it's allowed... Even if they slow down the schedule
  12. I have bought 5 from the Royal Mint and 3 on the secondary market because I was late to the series (actually Edward VII sold out very quickly, I started buying with George I). If you look on the RM's website there is nothing about the series being paused or discontinued. So people could be buying right now under the impression that the series is continuing. I get that they have the right to act commercially, but essentially they are telling no one what they're doing, no apology, nothing. The first few of these - certainly in the silver - sold out rapidly and it doesn't make sense to say that the better designs would not sell out similarly. The problem is the George II and Charles II were rather boring - the latter was like they were trying to avoid anything that competed with the Great Engravers Simon. If they put Edward I as a tiny child, Philip and Mary, George V with a crown like used in Australia - they would be great designs that would raise enthusiasm. At very least, telling us nothing and continuing to sell the series without explanation is like their raising a big middle finger at all of us
