Seems sensible, are you intentionally going for graded ones or are you just getting what comes along? Have you set up a thread with them all on?

I get where you are coming from with the grades, I have a couple that I think were dipped or something, they look a bit off. But you can't beat a mint state Morgan or Peace ☺️

I am picking them up raw or graded, although I am preferring to pick them up already graded lately, I intend on having them graded in the future. I only have 4 graded ones, and 55 raw.

I didn't do a thread, not sure why, I wish I did, but I have documented my progress on youtube from the start, 15 videos on the collection so far, I might be doing a full Morgan collection video soon.

Ive got real nice 1884 here ungraded But looks atleast as good as these two if not better if you want I'll be willing to let go pm me if you want photos

Cheers bud but I have a mint state 84, very common date, these are a little less common, the 78 7/8TF has a mintage of around only 500,000 and valued at about £60 in this grade and the 94-S is valued at about £115 in this grade.

@Peacemaker what is your plan for the rarer ones, I was looking at 1893 S and they are very pricey even in crappy grades! Are you just getting the date, or are you going for the best examples you can get for all?

I think Morgans look better in "crappy grades" haha! dates like the 93S I may never get, but definitely one of the last on the list. I am pretty much getting the best examples I can get for the price I am happy to pay at the time, it will vary but I now have grade limits, common dates I want in MS, the harder the date, the lower the grade I will accept.

  4. Another day, another seemingly reputable coin dealer selling a fake Morgan, not a cheap one either, rather than me just calling out FAKE! I will explain, I have circled some tell tale signs to look for, firstly the colour is completely off, you can almost see the brass, for its appeared condition, even on worn examples, the entire design, the eagle, lady liberty and all the lettering, date and mint mark should be clean and sharp, on this coin they're not, they're not even done well, Morgans were made over 100 years ago but the design was perfect.

The rim is terribly uneven, you might get a morgan with a slight uneven rim but not as bad and noticeable.

There is a few solder looking mark's, very common in the exact same spot on some fakes, on the left eagle wing.

Lastly the overall appearance is flat, looks like the same profile for the detail, the Morgan dollar has a very beautiful and complicated design, almost 3D like, the detail of lady liberty and the eagle has many profiles.

With the amount of red circles I have made, it would have been easier to circle the entire coin 🤣 but just a little pointer on what to look for

  5. So after a long wait for a couple of coins, I have received 2 coins from 2 sellers that look significantly different to the ebay picture, and extremely lower in quality

First 1 is a replacement for my 82 Philly, ebay picture looks beautiful, golden lustrous, and below that is a picture of how it actually looks in natural light, no lustre at all, looks historically polished and tarnished over

Next one is the 79 Philly, ebay pictures look acceptable, nice detail, and an old grey dullness giving the impression of a nice aging coin, below that is a picture of the actual coin, cleaned and/or polished the s**t out of, not happy today, I need some Morgans!

  6. Hi all, firstly, this is not a personal attack on the seller so I have censored personal details, potential buyers should be made aware that just because any seller that has near 40k and 100% feedback, it doesn't guarantee authenticity

So this seller listed a double headed 1895 Morgan for £35 buy now, listing said it was probably modified using 2 Morgans, and said it was 22.75g of .900 silver, this is a very common weight for the cheapest of fakes, you can get better quality fakes now weighing 26.7g, it's clear they don't do even the basic of checks to there coins (testing for diamagnetism with a neodymium magnet) or even have the knowledge of what a genuine Morgan should weigh, openly listing this Morgan dollar as .900 silver and weighing 22.75g, 4g under weight

I messaged the seller and rather than remove it, they have now reduced the prices, edited the listing to say copy and still continue to sell it

I am not a coin dealer but I have bought and sold for years to suit my collection and I have never made this kind of mistake before but I guarantee the authenticity of something I sell would be questioned before theirs on the feedback alone

Morgan dollars are something quite special to me and I always try to call out the counterfeits I see on eBay, some do it intentionally, some do not, either way it is not acceptable
