In a SHTF situation what plan do you have for getting your stack from your storage space?

I dunno. Smacking someones skull in with a 5kg bar of silver would probably work nicely. Think I'd give gold a miss though as the dent in it would likely reduce the resale value!

City of Kyiv in the Ukraine this morning.  When a SHTF happens your PM's will not help you.  What you gonna do walk around with 500oz silver?  The supermarkets are empty and if you are a man between 18-60 you can not leave and you have to fight.  This is the reality of a SHTF moment. 

Pm's are giving some people a very false sense of security.

Many years ago, I had a college friend from Vietnam.  One lunchtime I asked him how long he had lived in the UK. It transpired that he was a refugee. He and his family left Saigon by boat in mid 1970s during civil war. They paid to be smuggled into Hong Kong as refugees.

When I asked how much per head, he said didn't know as he was young but was aware they had to pay in gold to smugglers. I asked how come his family had so much gold.  He said his grandma owned a gold jewellery store. He recounted that all the remaining gold jewellery they had were either sown into clothes or stuffed into hollowed out platform shoes before leaving. Quite an interesting story I thought at the time. 

Years later, I met a vietnamese couple. I retold the story to them about my college friend and that they had to pay in gold to be smuggled out. They answered yes, no smugglers would accept paper money. Whoever wants to leave had to pay in gold. 

They said the going rate when they left was 6-7 tael of gold and some smugglers wanted more. Each tael is approx 1.2 ounces so about 7-8.5 ounces per head. 

They recounted that many boats were over capacity. Some of them sank and goodness knows how much gold were left at the bottom of the sea.

That's a when SHTF story for you !

Whilst everyone feels sorry (wrong word) for what is happening in the Ukraine they had plenty of notice. Weeks of notice. I have already removed my cash from the bank. My PMs are to hand. Safer in one of my properties than in a vault or bank.

I have already been in contact with family members living down south to ensure that they can leave at a moment's notice. Make sure vehicles are gassed up, bags are packed etc. They can leave within an hour as can I.

I think this is where crypto may excel. Convert some cash to crypto and keep it on a ledger. Even if you lose the ledger, 24 words committed to memory (mnemonics) and you're back in the game.

I appreciate it's not for everyone.

I have always found this SHTF discussion in relation to gold and silver pointless. If things were so bad that worldwide civilization collapsed (following something like WW3, Pandemic or zombie apocalypse) then what good would silver or gold do you when you cant eat it and it cant shelter you from the elements. 

If you are truly worried about SHTF moments (in the West at least) invest in a bunker with an abundant food supply

Very sensible mate best to have a plan and not need it, and need a plan and not have one.  Agree about your PM's the second there is any problems no way in hell is the mint or the banks going to let you take your own PM's.   Cash is also very useful even though it gets bashed on here, the average joe will still want to take cash over PM's.

I follow this travel guy on YouTube, he is an off the beaten track kind of guy and just so happens to be in Kiev the last few weeks. Interesting watch if you have time. One thing I noticed was at the boarder a man was trying to cross with his kids saying the mother was staying behind. Not sure of the outcome.
