Hello @Oldun

Please send us a direct message with your order number & email address and I shall look into this now. Everyone who has placed an order for the 5 Sov set should of been contacted, so it could of possibly gone into the JUNK folder if we are not a 'safe sender' in your email thread.

We will keep an eye out for the details you send, and make sure that this is rectified ASAP.

Regards,
The Chards Team

I have not looked at the whole thread, but it sounds like we are working on it.

Pedantic note: I am sure @ChardsCoinandBullionDealer meant "the 5 Sov set should have been", not "the 5 Sov set should of been"!

We do like to get things right!

I'm still not sure what to do with my 5-coin memorial set...

The quintuple and double sovereign are perfectly fine, but the full sovereign has a noticeable chunk of frosting missing and the half has a tiny scratch on the obverse.

However, the quarter sovereign has a strike through error, which truth be told is kind of interesting to me - more interesting than a perfect quarter sovereign. But Royal Mint are standing firm that I have to return the entire set if I want the full and half to be replaced.

Is such an error on a one-off-design proof sovereign particularly worthwhile in terms of collectability? Or would I be better off losing it and getting the whole set replaced in order to resolve the quality issues on the full and half sovs?

I guess the other question is, would this defect even grade as an error when it's that small? (I mean, it seems quite noticeable to me, but the coin itself is pretty tiny in the first place!) Here's a picture I posted previously:

If the 5 and double are fine, and the quarter is "special", I would definitely keep the set and try to get a full and a half on the second market  if I want a perfect set. You could also try to exchange with someone else who has a bad set but a good full and half, and want to return it to the RM

Anyway, you could be surprised to get a PF70 for your full sovereign if the defect is considered as a production flaw

Thanks very much for your thoughts. I'd be well up for swapping them for someone else's perfect half and full if they want to partake in such shenanigans :D

Another option I've unexpectedly been given is to buy a 4-coin set directly from the mint. It's tempting to get that and swap some around, but I can't help but feel that it might just end up being someone else's return at this moment in time and then I'd just end up having two problematic sets to sort out.

I suppose the full sovereign I already have could get a PF70 like you suggested, but it would not look pretty to me with that bullet hole through the chin:

Sorry, my reply with quote is playing up but I know @Charliemouse had a damaged set and was looking at potential trades with people, maybe you guys could help each other?

The way I see it production flaw is still a flaw, like die crack and weak strike even if it get slabbed and graded PF70. Perhaps they could add comments to a production flaw but if not that is a limitation to their grading system.

I don't think this defect could be considered as a die crack here (maybe an incorrectly prepared die)  However, I think that a production flaw such as die crack, or any strike error  is mentioned by NGC (and adds value).

But yours is die flaw, not a strike error. If it get slabbed do you think NGC will mention the flaw?

This is not my coin, but looking at the photos,  there is no die flaw imho, only an incorrectly prepared die .  But I am not a NGC specialist

If there was a die flaw/crack, strike error, I guess it would be mentioned by NGC

What are you expecting the SYO options to be by then? A coronation sovereign would be nice. They don't look too exciting at the moment :(
