My 2 Oz silver proof completer came in today. Opened the box and surprise surprise... the top half of the capsule was loose...

I think the Royal Mint likes to give its customers a surprise - it is part of the buying "experience"!

My was the same. But my coin was also not ok, but full of milkspots and dust. I hope your coin is ok, but you better check

😱 Horrified to hear about the milkspots - hope you got it resolved.  I'll definitely take a good look at mine.

I finally received my 1/4 oz silver proof set today. Did a quick receipt inspection - with the exception of the usual micro fibers stuck to the capsule (both inside and outside), a not-so-usual strand of hair stuck between the red dragon and its capsule, and a nick on the rim of one coin, the set seems to be in good condition.  Will do a more detailed inspection later but not expecting any surprises.  Just to clarify I got this set from a dealer so maybe there's a bit more QC?

The Queens Beasts were definitely moulting this summer judging by the state of the box sets most received.

Hello folks. Sorry to say it's refund time on the restruck 2Oz Queen Beasts I've received this morning. Actually worse than my original set.

Maybe I'm expecting too much? Spotting galore but also a black charred mark on the corner of the Unicorn.

These aren't all the pics but a decent flavour of the issues.

Awful simply awful, I simply don't understand how they can't do this 2oz set without milk spots they managed pretty well with the 1oz silver proofs.

Perhaps they are getting advice from the canadian mint :)

Yes, the dealer took it back and didn't forget to say, that he could not fulfill my expectations anymore, to get a nearly perfect coin and i should buy somewhere else...

And this after paying more than 500£ for this coin.

I feel very sad for you, but the first time good for missing a coinrelease. It's really emberassing for a mint with over 1000 years of history.

I have also had my returned set sent back to me today.

On the whole it’s a vast improvement to the first set.

I do though have some spotting on the black bull and the white horse…

I really don’t know what to do now…

If you bought this on the secondary market would you be happy?

It's a terrible decision you have to make. On the one hand you own one of the nicest coinsets i ever saw in recent years but the spots are a problem. Not, if you hold your set forever. But if you go at some point to sell it, you hardly get your money back. Maybe NGC conservation service can remove spots as they are not years old, but i'm not sure for it. On secondary market you will face problems with buyers if you let the spots out of your description.

From the RM or secondary market I deffinatly wouldn't be happy....A Proof coin or set is supposed to be that 'Proof

Silver whether bullion or Proof may milkspot and tone over time.  but you don't expect a new set like the QB's to have milkspots...And It's unacceptable for them to be sent in less than perfect condition after going through a quality control check. That's if they infact do go thru QC????????

What have you bought the set for? if its for your own pleasure I'd keep it at that,2 faulty coins not ideal but you have 8 good ones. If you are trying to make money out of it grade the 8 good ones & sell individually. Someone will always buy a unique graded coin.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

I am trying to build up a deposit for my own home so I will be selling.  Thanks for the advice all.

Seeing this post has just made me pull my 2018 Bull Of Clarence and milk spots have appeared on mine too. They weren't there last year. 🥺

I bought a 70 of @Lr103 with similar issues. Of course he was super clear about the spotting and brilliant from the get go, so no issues from me! I bought it knowing what it was. I think we have to expect this on RM silver!

I cancelled my 1/4 order in the end and ended up getting the 2oz Britannia and a graded Vic sovereign instead for the same money…happy with what I have and will be grading the 2oz as it’s a banging good 69 at least!!

Happy Saturday, all.

As a keen collector of graded QB sets I have noticed the worst coins in the 2oz series(graded) for spotting are the Bull followed by the Dragon you very rarely see any spots on the others.

Just checked mine & thankfully they're all good.

It's strange that these 2 (Dragon and Bull) out of the 10 QB's seem to have the most problems. Obviously it's not the Die's but the finishing,so why would these 2 out of the set have the most problems when Milkspotting??🤔

No idea it's just an observation I've made over the last 4 years or so.

Probably the quality of the blanks. My guess would be each version Lion, Bull, Horse etc, are done in a batches and then the die changed for the next one and as blanks are used up are replaced with another batch of different blanks.

Hopefully, someone who works in production could give a better insight.
