  1. It kind of blows my mind that they're selling a matt finish coin for almost 3 grand and yet they have to advertise it with a picture of a proof coin and a written disclaimer. I presume this is because they haven't even gotten around to striking a single coin with the finish they are actually advertising.
  2. Not to state the obvious but this also looks nowhere near as 'pink' as those advertised.
  3. I mean it's certainly 'Full On' but I like it. I do wonder how well this translates onto the bullion coin though. Proof might be the only way to see the detail on this one.
  4. I think it was @FlorinCollector who said a few days ago about buying this set, grading them, selling off the 1/4 & 1/2 and keeping the (now much cheaper) Full Sov. I thought quite a few might go that route. It's ยฃ180 cheaper to buy the three in this set than to buy them all individually.
  5. It's been a curious release. I bought early and was happy to get the one item I ordered. To think I was rushing so much to check out I almost forgot my password. But now, with stock still available days later it means I will not have to look back on this release with any regrets. I've had plenty of time to second guess whether I should purchase more but also to reflect on what I have bought and relax, without overstretching my finances in the moment and without the dreaded FOMO. I will say that regardless of how these coins perform on the secondary market I just think it's a great looking coin and I can't wait to get my hands on it. I feel lucky to be in a position to buy gold with everything that's going on for so many at the moment. I think in the end, for me, that's enough.
  6. Well said GoldDiggerDave although in fairness 1989 was a few decades before I got my drivers license. ๐Ÿ˜‰ See you boys & girls back here for port and cigars in 2055!
  7. One day the crisis will be over and you will have the coin. Maybe not a great market if you intend to flip it tomorrow but a few months or years down the line...
  8. Hype on hold only until the coins are delivered. Then I predict more people going over the top than was witnessed during the entirety of WW1. Not at the coins beauty but at the Royal Mints p**s poor quality control. I've invested so trust me I'll be the first one on here blowing the whistle. ๐Ÿ˜‚
  9. So do you think these will be a part of another set going forward? What's the deal with the other 760 coins?
  10. Sat at my computer at work 9a.m. There were 40,000+ in the queue ahead of me. Stayed logged in thought 'what the hell lets see what happens' have been reading this thread intermittently all morning having quite a good laugh. Got a bit distracted around the 2 hour mark only to finally see this. ๐Ÿคฃ
  11. Well I'm already logged in at the Royal Mint and waiting in the queue for the new Charles III proofs. ๐Ÿ˜† Not that it matters, their website is gonna crash harder than the Challenger when they do finally go on sale.
  12. Just order direct from the RM. Some of the stuff I've bought new from them lately gives off a certain 'circulated & pre-owned' vibe to me. Some advertise their coins as 'New Old Stock' but they seem to do a good line in 'Old New Stock'.
  13. Some great answers on here, as a relative newbie myself I enjoy reading all the differing perspectives. Personally and on a pragmatic level I like gold for the lower premiums, no VAT and CGT exemption. It is also far easier to store. I do buy silver coins and I will even occasionally buy a silver proof, not really as an investment I just enjoy the aesthetics of them. This wasn't something I intended to do, I originally intended to just buy a few coins, stick them in the bank and forget about them for 30 years but the more I looked around and researched where I should be spending my money the more I just started loving all the different designs and the history of numismatics. I ended up in the rabbit hole. I guess I'm saying my goals changed. I just wanted to diversify a modest portfolio and ended up investing myself into a completely new hobby.
  14. Ironically, if they did ditch the 'Pink' gold sovereigns they would probably become highly desirable and skyrocket in price.
  15. I had no idea anything was was going on until it was over. Not the first time thatโ€™s happened with the Royal Mint emails. ๐Ÿ˜†
  16. Royal Mint have announced the results of their coin of the year poll. Just wondering what some of the members here would have voted for? I'd probably go with the Queens Beasts 1oz Silver Proof Completer or the Gothic Crown 2oz Gold Proof but I didn't get to see a lot of the RM coins in hand. I think the H.G. Wells coin was the most disappointing as it had a lot of potential to be interesting but really just did a disservice to the author with that four legged tripod.
  17. I don't really like the design on the Tudor Beasts coin so It's been interesting being able to watch the release, free from the fear of missing out, that others have felt with this coin. I actually had pangs to buy it as I was in early on the website but in the end it just came down to me not liking the design and figuring it's be best to keep the powder dry for something that excites me more. My first take on the look of this coin was that it reminded me a lot of the QB Yale, it must have been the spots, but when I looked at the Yale and compared them I think the Panther almost looks cartoonish. The design of the Yale looks so much more refined. The Posture here is off and the paws on the Panther just look clumsy to me. It's a relief in a way as now I don't have to invest. I feel like the Royal Mints Beast's series was just so successful they couldn't bear to see that particular wave break, seeing as some of the Tudor Beasts are the same as Queens Beasts we'll get to see directly comparable coin designs from different artists which will be interesting I think. But it would have been nice if the RM had come up with something fresh which was a bit more of a departure from a series that they literally just finished this year. I'm not saying this to put anyones noses out and If you like the coins design fair play this is just my opinion. The forum would be a boring place if we all liked the same things. As Westminstrel said earlier sometimes these designs do grow on you.
  18. They've had a few different designers on this series and so as a set the coins haven't looked as 'coherent' as they might have done. Saying that this design looks better to me than some of the others.
  19. The Queens Beasts were definitely moulting this summer judging by the state of the box sets most received.

    H.G Wells

It really is a crying shame. When you consider the wealth of talented artists and graphic designers who would give their right arms to have the chance to design a coin for the Royal Mint only to see some of the poorly designed first draft efforts they seem to green light.

    What's happened with your Una?
  22. I returned my 1/4 oz set today. Indents, milk spots, bristles all over the presentation box it all just lead to me being underwhelmed. I thought about selling it or splitting the set and selling off the good coins. I couldn't in good conscience sell someone a coin I wasn't happy with but in the end I just thought no, I don't want all the hassle. I wanted these for myself but after really thinking about it the purchase left me disappointed so I returned it. I'll spend the refund on something I can feel good about. I won't risk buying another set of this size from RM in future.
