Want to show this amazing rarity: the George IV 1829 half sovereign mule with 1823 reverse. Ex Terner collection, PCGS PR64CAM. Only 2 are known and the other one is impounded in the Royal Mint collection. The Royal Mint actually struck 4,205 half sovereigns during 1829, but all with 1828 dies.

    Beautiful coin - congratulations!

Pic of my 1829 sixpence which is the obverse die.

If anyone is after some of the higher end LMU coins it might be worth taking a look at this link https://www.astebolaffi.it/en/auction/337

They have some really nice coins, some murats, Johnson’s, Parma’s pretty much everything!! They where even nice enough to send me a full color catalogue 😁.

The hard copy looks to be good quality - I just have the PDF and my eye on a few things:ph34r:

Postman making me a happy chappy today :)

Some reasonably high grade half crowns- 1888 Victoria and 1915 and 1916 KGV. The 1916 has a lovely dark toning to it and better eye appeal, but I think the 1915 is in better condition so decided to put that one in the folder- tough decision really.

An ok 1821 crown but with a few obverse scratches that are quite deep.

Larger than crown sized German 5 mark from the state of Wuerttemberg :) great condition for the age and size and a lovely feel to it.

Decent grade and well struck George V silver is surprisingly difficult to find:ph34r: unfortunately the major auction houses seemed to have started to realise this and estimates for quality examples are going up - and I haven't completed my set yet:(

I love those 2.5 Gulden coins, they are high on my wishlist, there is lots out there but I have yet to find my AUNC / UNC one from the time period I am collecting, I won 2 more coins in auctions, just the wait now till they arrive (if they do) , and if they are any good.

Some world silvers also arrived this morning :) Would ordinarily be excited to receive these but was a tad overshadowed by the gold this morning 😂

Another 2.5 gulden this time with the seahorse privy mark- these really are some of the best looking (and biggest) world silvers out there.

Lovely Edward VII florin- one of the best British coin designs of the 20th century in my opinion.

These are impressive coins although looking at the top Registry Set and the census decent UNC examples seem to be a bit of a challenge.

In my view putting together sets of quality early 20th century silver from lots of places in the world is surprisingly difficult, including Edward VII and George V, and a well worth long term project

    - pity the Napoleonic period was early 19th century as my funds would go much further! Although I may need some 'side projects'

  5. I've had a couple where the certificate number was verified but the coin was not on the census - or the other way around, just contact NGC and they usually correct things quickly.

The reason may be that it was recently graded and thus not made it to online census yet, or it was graded a long time ago (in an old holder) and just not been added to the census, or it is just a mistake. Given the number of yours I would guess the former!

A coin I never thought I would see, let alone own.! After a rather unpleasant bidding war in the early hours, an erroneous VAT bill from our friends at Border Force (claim for a refund already submitted), it has finally arrived from the good old US of A 🇺🇸!

A 1961 Peruvian Una Libra (Sovereign of South America) - why so rare?.      MINTAGE - 402

Its tricky to take good pictures today (really sunny), so these pics were taken putting the coin under water to stop the glare...a first attempt..comments welcomed on another thread maybe!

Congratulations! With a mintage like that it will need grading 😀

I have lost count of the refunds made having been charged the wrong import duty, when you point out they do not know the regulations supported by the appropriate links the refunds are very quick 🙂

  7. Not strictly LMU but another Napoleon 1812M 20 lire from Italy. New coin first and a bit cleaner! existing coin second.

I think the 1812M desigination on the holder of the new coin is incorrect and it is actually the variety with the second 1 over 0, both say 1812M which is fine for my original coin. Normally the underlying 0 is really quite obvious but there is a faint trace of it there but the more obvious difference is the distance between the 1 and 2 which is greater for the 1/0 varieties which are seen for most of the dates. Although this variety is in the reference books NGC have not certified any and PCGS have only certified a single example and that is AU50 - this coin is AU53 which I think is low and it should be AU55 when compared to other AU53's and AU58's. Now I just have to persuade NGC to change the label🤣 @Numistacker thoughts on mechanical error???

At long long last..my date run of French 20 Francs Angels is complete, and comes to an end (and an expensive one☹️)!. With kind assistance from @augur I managed to get the ‘Torch’ engravers mark on an 1896....bought at the Gadoury auction in Monaco earlier this month.

This will fit in nicely with the little hoard below...note the difference between the two 1896’s.

Congratulations - you just need a slabbed set now, and then the top Registry Set 😁

Due to a complete lack of funds I only managed to get one of the lots I wanted from the Gadoury auction - it hasn't arrived yet ☹️

    This is all about sterling.

$1.24 and 1.11EUR... GBP is a piece of used toilet paper.

I get paid in GBP.. I'm actually furious that pound is my pocket is quickly becoming a worthless piece of bad much more than I am relieved to be holding some non-sterling denominated assets.

Unfortunately when there are only one or two examples of a coin you are after you have to get it when it appears so the exchange rate is killing me as I pretty much buy all my coins in Europe or the US - haven't bought an 'old' coin from a UK auction in years! At the moment I am concentrating on the minor denominations as they are cheaper (actually much more difficult to find anyway) than the crowns or gold although I am seriously considering having to stop buying things completely due to the exchange rate :( Hopefully when Brexit goes through the £ will rise again due to the 'uncertainty' disappearing.:)
