I haven't been buying much as I have been busy closing on a buy to let in docklands.. well that is now closed and the tenant will move in at the beginning of May so I can now focus on the hobby a little bit more.

I have been looking for interesting things with some potential and just bought this item in eBay auction.

I love coins from this period. I have an 1812 Napoleon I 40 Frank and this got an AU55 when I graded it myself.

This one is 1815 and is a Louis coin.

Nice coin, I keep trying to collect one of each type of gold 20F size coin from across Europe as that would cover many designs - I am a long way from this as there are lots from about 1800!

They aren't brilliant but good enough for me, for now:)

The '25 won't quite make VF but I guess one '30 will be gVF-aEF and the other aEF

Good grades, AEF are very nice coins that usually command a decent premium, I have lots of sixpences at that grade!

I was tempted by the MS64 1930 in the recent St James auction as there are very few at that level but couldn't do it.

    Three rare(ish) half crowns (2x 1930, 1x 1925) from a local auction., and some odds'n'ends silver coins from GS.BE

Just wondered what grade the halfcrowns were? Although I now have these two in high grade it wasn't easy and am currently trying to complete a slabbed set of George V halfcrowns having 'forgotten' that I had not finished the date run? - this is surprisingly difficult. One of the ungraded coins is going in Numi's next batch to see what NGC think - hopefully at least MS64!

Won an email bid at Lockdales auction. My first Roman coin. Caligula. Always had a soft spot for that since seeing Helen Mirren when I was a teenager.

Will have it graded by NGC Antique Coins and feature it on the channel.

    Numi,

Any joy on the proof 1/10oz Britannia's?

I have at least 7 raw Pesos in the same condition if your interested... Eventually I'll send them in for grading as well.

That's a great collection - all different dates? The leading NGC registry sets must have taken some time to put together - just need to persuade the kids that they will need to complete the various sets I have?

I noticed one in MS67 went at Heritage in January which I didn't bid on as I spent too much on another lot in that sale!

3rd box from NGC (I disagree with the artificial toning tag as I've seen may toned fake and real, but I guess it's open to interpretation from NGC)

    Great Mexico silver pesos!

I have looked at collecting these, and the earlier 8 reales, due to the Spanish link and they are very impressive in the hand. I am always tempted at the US auctions as getting mexican coins in the UK is almost impossible (goes for anything from central and south america). I do like the small gold 1 peso for a date run though?

I am interested in P2P lending but not put any research into it - any advise on where I should start or pitfalls to look out for?

    Breaktwister,

In terms of P2P I would suggest reading the 'p2pindepentforum.com'. Going through all the different platforms and posts should help in deciding whether it is for you.

For me I know I should be putting more into this rather than buying coins but I can't help myself? I call it diversification!

  8. Interesting thread, my target is 15 years - that way my personal pension and any investments should just cover the gap until my work and state pension kicks in (assuming everything goes as planned - fat chance, but you have to start somewhere!)

I get cross with myself everytime I buy another coin when I know I should buy income generating assets but I get over it ?

The Heritage NewYork auction in January is probably going to mean it will now be 20 years - never mind?
