I didn't refresh until about 8:36 to get the website down page, just wanted to check out their product pages as I got one from COTR - I expected to be 40,000 or something in the queue, 4700, surprised there isn't more to be honest.
I'm going back to sleep

My nap has kept me from my destiny.
Where do I join this queue? I went on the RM website on mobile and doesnt say anything!
It's not available to the general public, like the secret menu they will offer you in the Chinese restaurant: you have to speak Welsh to the Royal Mint for them to offer you the link

Charles. I thought there may have been a Latin version like the Georgius or Edwardvs coins! Charles just seems too English. If you get my meaning.
Apparently the Latin form of Charles is Carolus, I don't think he'd appreciate being called Carol haha

Just reserved a full, half, quarter and 3 coin set for tomorrow. Also there will be a 2 coin set which isn’t advertised on the royal mint website keep your eyes open tomorrow morning
Very nice! I reserved a half, the full was too expensive for me.
I didn't care about proofs at all, until I got a 1980 proof half from someone on the forum, it's developed a fire inside me.
I probably would have just got a bullion, but since there's been no mention of bullion releases, I thought I'd get the proof, just in case they are only proof and BU releases

I prefer a double Sovereign, rather than a thicc Sov.
Especially since if you get a piedfort graded, the thickness is kind of lost, so it just looks like a sovereign.
This will definitely be a design that a larger circumference will display splendidly

Last week I put up an exchange request with some small fractional for a 1/4 ounce coin. Today this arrived from @PapaLazarou 35th anniversary of the nugget series, "Golden Eagle" proof, mintage of 300.
My photos don't do it justice, it's a gorgeous coin, very happy!

Is anyone else confused as to why the Mint are calling these a "Memorial Sovereign"? There is nothing about QEII on them.
Because it can make £££

I'm pretty confident the sovereign with 17,000 edition size won't get sold out for weeks if everyone is restricted to 3 per household and allocation to dealers are very limited. The Harry Potter 15,000 colour proofs are a lot more affordable and its popularity transends numismatic but still not sold out after 3 weeks. The Royal Mint probably has a record of how many buyers of their coins and coin types and constantly adjust its mintage figures to maximise profits. I would guess there is a hardcore but small community that would buy all, then another bigger group that buys the odd ones. In the wider world our hobby would be met with a bit of amusement and as an extravagence by the average Joe.
I would say that's because the harry potter coins aren't the best, and coloured is a niche market. You only have to look at how many listings here are sovereigns and how quickly they get snapped up to see how popular they are, add in the fact it's the second 2022 sovereign, and first with Charles, they'll sell out fast imo

The matte looks amazing, when I had my 2022 normal sov, I thought it looked amazing when it was angled in a way which didn't show the reflective surface, sort of like the matte, but it's so darn reflective normally, and with the colour I didn't like it very much.
The matte though is gorgeous

You can get the türkiye cumhuriyeti bullion coin, which has the year of the Turkish republics birth, 1923 + years after it was minted, with Atatürk on. There is also the decorative Ziynet coin, which is thinner, and bigger, often used for decoration and for gifts, and you can get the older designs
Darphane (Turkish state mint) also does commemorative coins

And finally, another from @elvee426. Yes, it was me. This thing is stunning. Ever seen a 1oz, 999.99 gold sovereign? Me neither.
You can thank me now for removing the temptation from everyone. 🤣
That is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. I am blinded by it's majesty, paralysed, dumstruck.

I thought that the obverse sides were written in latin?
It is latin, Dei Gratia Rex, Fidei Defensor - Charles III, by the Grace of God, king and defender of the faith

With an actual confirmed mintage of a paltry 189 (from a maximum 600) it had rated as my second most desirable gold roo, behind only the elusive RAM 2018 25th Anniversary 1oz.Huge thanks to the redoubtable@elvee426 for this deal and for his integrity in pointing out an apparent speck of finish loss. Happily it has transpired that this was no more than detritus, resolved with the use my inordinately expensive proprietary custom-built hi-tech numismatic apparatus, shown below. The coin is accompanied by a revolting two-tone box, more appropriate to a Blackpool souvenir seashell. Forrible.
Beautiful, I really hate the silver kangaroo, the quokka, koala, and kookaburra evolving designs are very nice. The unchanging silver kanga is not one for me.

From seeing what happened with the last release it looks like theyre using a load balancer to manage requests and protect the rest of the site from peak volume - so each session/browser you open would get its own place in the queue, overall kind of counter productive to have multiple windows open as it slows down others getting in and through. Unlikely having anything open before the content is released would help as they probably have to purge caches for the content to be available, at the very least you'll need to keep refreshing the page once its open (actually they could solve this for you, but i'd be surprised).
Also saw their payment system failing last time which means they havent quite got their scaling sorted out properly, its a bit cheap these days as they arent really that high volume.
That's very insightful, thank you

Where did you get this information about bullion Sovereigns from?
Out of my arse, because apparently I've misread the page out of excitement, assumed bullion was the numbers listed as it didn't say proof, yet had a BU section. My mistake, it was LEP

If anyone has a fool-proof method for getting to the front of the queue, I very much doubt they would post it on here🙄
I just wanted to know if refreshing the page put you back 20,000 places, I'm sure such information wouldn't cause the person giving it to miss out on the very last sovereign, I imagine people have their own methods such as keeping the royal mint website open overnight, opening different pages in other tabs, or trying the queue on multiple different devices, none of which I would be bothered to do.

Anything I know which is not in the public domain is subject to embargo!
Proof sovereign ranges have never previously been an RM direct only release, so there would be no reason to expect anything different this time.
Does the RM say they can only be bought direct?
😎
No they don't, that's true, but if there is 3000 bullion half sovereigns supposedly, which will easily get snapped up from their website within minutes, at a higher price than a reseller, then I'd assume they wouldn't bother sending such small portions out to places such as Chards/Atkinson's as the mintage numbers are low and it's a limited time, right?
I could be wrong, but if I knew people would buy my small amount of boxes of chocolates directly from me within 30 minutes of release, I wouldn't bother sending them out to resellers.
Edit: Ignore me I cant read
😁

Does anyone have any tips for queueing? At around 8:30 the website goes down whilst they "launch their newest product" but it doesn't seem to tell you that unless you are navigating a fresh page, so do you refresh/click on a new product around 8:30 to get this page to show up? Or do you just leave your browser until 9am and then refresh or...?
