Yep I like the Leuchtturm Quadrum option and display case. They used to do a 12x which is perfect for QB, but 20 for QB + TB without the completer(s) sounds a good option. Also this box but currently out of stock and a bit on the pricey side.
  2. It's a wonder anyone buys any coins at all - we must all be mugs 😜
  3. I don't understand. Say for example I buy when spot is £10. I pay VAT and also premium. So let's say I pay £14. Then later spot is £20. I sell on TSF (where else?) at a price that is slightly below the dealers (and therefore has VAT and premium built in). Let's say I sell at £27.50. I have made a return right?
  4. Thank you Lawrence for taking the time and effort to reply. Yes from what you say it looks like some other dealers have bumped up their premiums, but Chards are still well priced. I do not fully agree with the investment argument on Silver Brits due to VAT. Prices in the secondary market (for example this forum) do take VAT into account - we do not see ex VAT prices in the sales section (unfortunately!). And legal tender UK coins are free from CGT. Naturally there are annual CGT thresholds so you'd need a lot of bullion and a lot of profits for that to make a difference. Spot was down at £10.50 in Mar 2020 and has been as high as £28 in Mar 2011. If (when?) we see those highs again that's not a bad return.
  5. Seems like just the last week there has been a significant spike in premiums. No doubt this has to do with QEII (RIP), but premiums seem to be up across the board on bars and non-UK coins as well. Certainly this has been going on with US Eagles for a while. Looking at Atkinsons Brits are at about £30 for 1 or £26.75 ea when buying a tube of 25 (VAT inc). US Eagles are pretty nuts at £36 for 1 or £33.25 ea when buying a tube. Current spot at time of posting £17.13. Just checked out Chards and their prices seem to be more reasonable (although a lot of items out of stock or with status Orderable rather than In Stock) Prices in TSF Buy Sell haven't reacted yet - a good time to buy there I would say! Hoping to get some commentary on the situation from @LawrenceChard 😁
  6. Second Chance: How to Make and Keep Big Money from the Coming Gold and Silver Shock-Wave (David Smith & David Morgan) May be worth checking out - naturally these guys are pretty bullish. I found it a very interesting read and there are sections on investment psychology and how to think about timing your exit, including trading in tranches (i.e. it is near impossible to call the bottom or the top, so one option is to trade in tranches in those zones). Also sections on mining stocks if the volatility of the metals alone is not enough for you 😁 Mike Maloney should be coming out with a new book in the next few months which should definitely be worth a read (as always make up your own mind and do your own analysis). You have his current book, but it is worth mentioning a free PDF of it is available on his website www.goldsilver.com Incrementum publish the In Gold We Trust Report on an annual basis. It can be long and somewhat dry in places, but has lots of market analysis and best of all, it's free.
  7. Available now as far as I can see. Unfortunately I don't have funds. Good luck everyone
  8. Hi Stuntman, yes unsurprisingly I have been contacted about the 2017s from this forum, and they are already sold. I'm learning now that Royal Mint coins are the real collectables and other mints seem to be of very little interest for the most part. However I do have a 2019 St Helena 5 Pound Una and the Lion as part of the 2019 EIC Queen Victoria sovereign set. I'm currently considering getting that NGC graded, and perhaps other coins in that set (not sure if the other coins are desirable or not).
  9. I assumed his question was for Pete, as he quoted Pete just before asking it
  10. Yes there are some rarer proof sovereigns - for example a QEII Special Reverse Sovereign Set and a 2017 sovereign 5 coin set. I've heard that taking the trouble to do NGC grading can make a big difference
  11. Thank you Louise - will definitely talk to you guys in the near future
  12. Thank you @Pete. Wow a salutary lesson there indeed! It's very interesting to hear your experiences, and pretty concerning. For my part I have no intention of selling at or near spot, as the goal would be to realise some profit in order to buy bullion grade, and end up with more gold weight at the end of the day. So I may be faced with holding on to items that cannot be sold profitably. Testing the waters here seems to be the way to go initially.
  13. Hi I have a few gold proof coins that I would like to sell, some quite rare (all post 2010). Can you advise on the best options to achieve the best prices? As far as I can tell I'm looking at either dealers, auctions, ebay (to be honest I don't like that option as it just seems too risky) or this forum. The problem with dealers seems to be they are very aggressive on price and can sometimes be offering up to 50% lower than they sell them for. I even got an offer from a dealer which was below spot (and I mean spot before the recent Ukraine related spike). Auctions I know very little about and do not know how likely they are to achieve a good price. And this forum, is there an appetite for proof, or is most of the interest in bullion grade? I do know there is the @BackyardBullion escrow style service, which takes out some of the risk of dealing with unknown individuals. Any advice gratefully received, especially if you have specifics, or experience of selling similar. Thanks!
  14. Thanks for the info! I'll watch the video, but... .. I won't attempt myself! May look into having it done professionally, or just take the hit on the value.
