Presumably, "gold plated version" is a synonym for "fake" in this case, and while it claims to contain 1oz of fine gold and has a face value of £100, surely its only purpose can be to deceive.
Anyway, how on Earth has it managed to get a starting bid at that amount?!

In my experience i would say the signed for is a total waste of time. It's basically advertising to a unscrupulous person that something value is inside.
It could be worse - MyHermes couriers can actually see exactly how much a parcel is worth! They shouldn't have any need for that, and I bet it helps fine tune which ones go missing...

Oh yeah, I did see that! Not great for me🤣
Sorry, wasn't meaning to thwart your selling, more to give you a price idea!

There was a deal posted for the 2020 gold standard just last night! 😃
Update: still plenty in stock https://www.hattongardenmetals.com/buy/the-gold-standard-quarter

Btw, if the intention was to hide that number under the black rectangle, be aware that the barcode also contains that number

This hadn't registered with me until you said it. Now I'm wondering whether it's worth being repackaged...
Your coins look awesome btw. Are you keeping the obverse facing one as it is, or asking for it repackaged?
I have pointed it out to them and I'm waiting to see what they offer to do about it first.

Are they producing an older britannia now?, are they adjusting the mint on 2019 brits so they can make more?, is that even legal?
As it says on that page: "A 2019-dated silver coin that was inspected at the 2020 Trial of the Pyx"
See https://www.royalmint.com/our-coins/events/trial-of-the-pyx/ for more information about that process.

Anyway, I'm pleased to say I have found the coin!
It was not present in that slot, nor anywhere else in the completely-sealed folder like it was for the other coins I'd ordered - it had instead been chucked loose into the outer brown cardboard folder where I have just unexpectedly found it wedged tightly into the corner. Quite a relief, but also annoyed that they had done that, and also annoyed that I didn't find it until after spending half an hour on the phone with them (it was really well hidden, I missed it on my first check!).
My recycling bin nearly went into early retirement!

Yup. As Paul says, it’s the 2009 Kew Gardens released for circulation that has one of the lowest mintages of circulation coins.
It's crazy isn't it. The mintage was 210,000, which seems like a large number - but compared with the rest I guess it isn't, and the relatively low mintage is exacerbated by people keeping hold of them when they find one, thus making them even rarer in the wild. You'd be extremely lucky to find one today even if you sifted through dozens of big bags of 50ps from a bank.
Here's an eBay auction for a circulated one that sold for £160, which seems even crazier when you can get uncirculated ones for less! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Kew-Gardens-50p-Original-Genuine-Circulated-great-condition-2009-Rare-/403222335467

I'm curious as well as to why the Kew Gardens became so sought after. Nice coin but I'm not overly familiar with 50p's.
It's most likely due to the fact that the circulated version is so rare. Even a bruised up circulated Kew Gardens coin is worth quite a lot to some people!

How are you able to see that again?

The aptly named B.I.N. ones (Buy It Now), only cost about 10p per month to list, with a bigger fee if it ever sells, which simply encourages sellers to list stuff at ridiculously over-inflated prices.
For personal sellers, it doesn't cost anything to list items with a Buy It Now price (unless you list hundreds of items). It's been that way for several years now, which probably only exacerbates the number of crazy opportunistic listings.
New coins coming soon.
