Hi all, this is my first post glad to be here with you all,
OK, so I`m 61 and retired, I was hearing lots of scary stuff about the collapse of currency banks etc and decided to do something for myself. Without getting any advice I went to the royal mint and spent half of my savings on 1.5 Kg of gold in 500g bars. At the time I paid 68000 pounds and its now around 63000 spot price.
I`m told the because its bullion any profit will be subject to CGT and that I should have bought coins. I`m probably here too late but would welcome any advice.
Cheers Pete
I wouldn't see the benefit in selling at a loss to buy more gold. Sure if you needed the money quickly you might have to take a hit.
Could there be a possibility of trading? Eg could you swap 1 of the bars with someone for xx number of sovereigns or 1 oz coins. It might suit someone whose stack has grown beyond their expectations and wants to consolidate some of it instead of having loads of different pieces.
If you don't need the money at the moment though why not just wait until you're back in the green then sell at break even or a gain and buy in your chosen pieces?

Hello.
Nice choices, definitely some of my favourite designs in the QB set and although I've yet to see any Una bars in person the designs look fantastic

Hello there. I watched a short Australian documentary about "preppers" in Sweden, they made out that aspects of prepping were promoted by the government.
Is it quite common where you are or did they just select a couple of enthusiasts to interview for the documentary?

Welcome. Whilst there's a lot of financial trickery going on inflating the fiat currencies nobody can predict the future. If you're wanting to get started but not sure why not try saving a small amount of your spare cash bit by bit into metals and see how it goes? Make sure you've enough money to pay your bills etc and some for a rainy day but whether it's some old currency coins containing silver or modern bullion there's plenty of options.

Keeping my eye out for a 2012 too. I just got a bullion 2005 recently. The proof looks fantastic

If you feel something isn't right then why not wait. I don't think social media is a good idea in general if you're collecting precious metals even more so, so I wouldn't hold that against someone. I appreciate when you meet someone and they ask for social media to keep in touch they seem to think you're weird when you don't have it though 😂. Good luck 🤞🏼👍🏽

The SLV claimed it added an impossible amount of silver at the beginning of the silver squeeze.
This is when silverbacks were still in with Wall Street Bets and weren't as aware of the corruption. Then it was realised how much silver the SLV claimed to add - just impossible, so it didn't happen. Now we see the LBMA made an 'accounting' error - miscounting - adding 3863 tonnes of silver to its claimed inventory it never had.
Funny the amount the SLV claimed to add to its inventory (which the LBMA counts in with its stash) was 3415 tonnes.
i just wonder if the SLV just made it up. It added nothing to its inventory. It was just smoke and mirrors.
The squeeze is squeezing. When I'm counting up my silver stack I sometimes accidentally miscount by 3000 tonnes, come on... It can't just be me? 😂🙄

Search icons of route 66 1 oz silver and you'll see them.
-
10kg the metal content alone was worth just over 400k it didn't say the selling price but said there was supposedly a buyer already in the article I read

Has anyone seen the 10kg gold completer coin? They've apparently made just 1, over 400 hours to make. I saw the news section on Bullion by post website. Have a search for it online 😍

Welcome.
@Gordybeat me to it.
Some other interesting ones there is the route 66 series with some shield shaped 1 oz silver pieces, maybe the Perth mint rectangular coin bars too.
Whilst we all stack and collect for different reasons there is a value on the enjoyment that some coins might give you beyond the metal value.
I wouldn't pay a high premium for a silver brit for eg but as a bit of a sideshow from my stack I collect a handful of higher premium t rex based coins..... Just got me thinking
Out of say 300 oz bullion it might be 5 oz of 'fun stuff' for eg

Some 100 oz bars on baird mint coming in looking "cheap" with vat compared to a lot of sales even on the 2nd hand market at the mo.
