  1. Difficult to imagine how you could get a genuine sovereign into this state ie the edge and rim, under reasonable use. Even with moderate abuse.

Don't think there's any way being in a jewellery holder could have done it.

Could just be the photo lighting but the edges of all the relief details look too sharp and angular.

    Wonga was £450 wasn't he?

A little low if you ask me. I find £1200 to be reasonable.

£750 sticks in my mind as it was late 2015 and the last really low spot price in recent times, we were buying sovs for £180 ish. It was the days of HGM selling shields for 5 - 10% premium or so.

  3. THis is what I have been told about when stock will be available, although it doesn't guarantee delivery. Notice some are available in batches. Some clearly have been sent out already!

    5 coin set  3/2/23 and 24/2/23

    4 coin set  3/2/23 and 17/2/23

    3 coin set  27/1/23

    Full sovereign  3/2/23

    Half sovereign  17/2/23

All in all, a right poor do, and I have expressed my feelings accordingly😁

Doug a.k.a. @SemolinaPilchard researched it and made his own prototype for our use, then made the improved Chard branded version in our guide.

He did use to fabricate and sell them until he got a new toy. He is currently outsourcing a small production batch which will probably be Chard branded, then we will offer them for sale, soon.

He is also in process of writing a brief guide to go on the chards.co.uk website, showing How We Photograph Coins, which should be published in the next few days.

    Did these two materialise?

Una is obviously a very in demand coin still. But auctions can so easily be be fixed , Not that we ever would but two of us here who both own unas could list one and both bid against each other until it was over 100k, hell why not make it 200k?!?, a new record! we then make payment and split the 6% commission cost. For a mere few grand each our coins now have a past sales history of over 200k. Now we list somewhere else with a 160k reserve and hope a wealthy buyer thinks they are getting a bargain.

Shhushhh stop giving away all my secrets😁

  6. I believe Facebook marketplace/trading groups are a bit like the wildwest. I don't know for sure because I have never used FB, for trading or otherwise. I have heard of horrendous tales of buyers being ripped off and scammed in the name of open market trading in the last few years.

Trading on this forum has grown from it's roots as a few deals between members many of whom had gained their silver stacking spurs together on other forums. Then, as the forum grew, more and more deals were struck on the basis of trust between people of like minds and interests. Generally members strove to keep costs down by adopting fee-free money transfer avenues that invariably offered no insurance to either party. This section of the forum has grown and grown, picking up dealers and part-time dealers along the way.

It works because of it's history and gradual evolution. Perhaps the alternatives of ebay and FB have helped to keep out the scammers by providing them with an easier environment in which to operate and, because this forum is self-policing to a large extent, the current "system" has evolved?

As someone said earlier, if it ain't broken, don't try to fix it, or something like that😁 Personally, I get annoyed when new members come here and try to change the culture and moan when everyone here won't play by their rules. It's very impolite and lacks class IMO. Usually though, they disappear fairly quickly.😊

I think using "fractional" for half, quarter, tenth, twentieth, twenty-fifth, and fiftieth ounce coins makes good sense. It is certainly much quicker and easier than saying or typing "half, quarter, tenth, twentieth, twenty-fifth, and fiftieth ounce coins" every time you want to refer to any of them!

Sure, one ounce bullion coins are relatively new, and fractionals even newer, from 1980, but that's all the more reason we needed a "new" word to describe them.

    😎

Fractional sovereigns, fractional britannias etc fine, as the baseline coin is known, but simply fractional gold without an accepted definition of the "whole" is confusing.

  8. I always thought the use of the word "fractional" with regards to gold coins was pointless and frankly silly. Gold has never been practically traded as a 1 oz coin or in any other format; as previously stated, 1oz coins are a relatively new invention.
