The photos on NGC are showing lots of scratches, are they all on the slab?
-
Yes they were never good with unusual sovs😁
-
Just in terms of wear of the coin, both sides are around VF

When I saw the first two photos, I immediately said "aEF" because there are minor wear on both sides of the coin, noticeablely on the hair and the dress. Then the 3rd and 4th photos shows finer details and makes me want to go with "EF". But I would still go with "aEF", final answer ! 🤗
I was the same at first but when I looked in greater detail and compared the photos with ones of known grade, it caused me to upgrade my opinion.

Why pay off your mortgage, your interest rate is significantly below inflation, which means your winning against the bank, as long as you use your money wisely and beat what your being charged in interest then you win, if your not sure you can then fair enough pay off the mortgage, but what ever you owe the bank right now is reducing by 10% real terms.
just throwing this in as an alternative view. That's how central banks inflate debt away

I did get told an interesting fact while on to CS today. She said they hold the coin at arm's length and if a defect is visible by naked eye they accept it as defective. Otherwise, it's good!
A bit "industrial" IMO😁

I had a horrendous eBay experience where someone did actually send me the wrong coin.
It was supposed to be a proof sovereign in perfect condition, but I ended up recieving a completely different sovereign - it was the wrong year and had loads of marks on it.
Because he was convinced that he sent me the right coin, he basically called me a scammer from the outset when I politely explained the problem and asked whether he still had the correct year in his possession so it could be swapped.
Fortunately I had videoed the entire process of opening his parcel and testing it on a sigma device as soon as it arrived, and I'm jolly glad I did because when I opened an eBay return case he said I was a scammer and that I was going to return not just a different coin, but a fake coin!
I felt quite helpless at this point, as although I was going to return the coin he sent me, it would still be the wrong one as far as he was concerned. I do not like being falsely accused of being a scammer, even if eBay's buyer protection would ultimately cover me............
This happened to me a few years ago although I am convinced he did try to scam me and wasn't simply a confused old timer. You can usually tell by their initial attitude and how quickly they accuse you of being the scammer, not a word of there being any possibility they made an error, which is easily checked at their end.
He had even changed address without telling ebay so the coin I returned went to the wrong address!

I am truly appalled by the RM's incompetence and complete disregard for their customers.
This morning I phoned CS to to return my 4-coin set which, after 3 weeks in my hands is still not showing in my account, other than the "placeholder" which those bought via account managers have been shown as since launch. OK she sorted it, but then asked why I still have outstanding "orders" for a 3-coin set and a full sov, still showing as "placeholders".
"Oh" she said, "I will check up on those, give me a few moments as nothing is coming up when I detail search them".
True enough, a couple of minutes later she came back "I'm afraid those haven't been minted yet and we have no information about when they will be. Feel reassured they will be sent to you as soon as they are minted" !!!
I am truly gobsmacked, she did apologise profusely but that only emphasises how bad they are, she sounded like she is no stranger to having to apologisse to disatisfied customers. So, 4 and a half months after selling them, they still haven't minted them all. What a bunch of cowboys.

@ChrisSilver is it possible to have the metals prices back at the top of the page - i used to find that very helpful.
I think he said he needs to get the developer to sort it.

It's patently obvious she's not a youngster. It would be a better depiction if they did away with the modern trend of very angular features, smooth them off a bit.

I always found it useful to phone my branch before attempting something like this but that was in the days of actually having a local branch so maybe irrelevant now. This was especially useful if there was going to be any cash involved.
I would imagine this is where banking with First Direct comes in useful. They used to be a telephone/postal only execution bank and you can still get through to them by phone straight away and the CS staff are very good. Always managed to sort any issues immediately.

So you remember back in 2014 & 2015 the ½ Sovereign & Full Sovereign had the "Unfrosted" Variety. Where the Obverse was a bullion strike and the reverse was a Proof, aka a Mule. Is this another instance of this? refer to the images provided. This is a 2022 ¼ Sovereign Bullion with a "Frosted" Reverse. What do you think ?
Looks like it yes although I didn't know you could get bullion 1/4 sovs, you learn every day.

51 minutes ago, JGL100 said:My rant do you would be - embrace tech as 1950's banking is expensive to run and maintain. People want and expect free banking and are not going to pay for it so the minority can have 8 different banks in the high street. Everything is is moving to app based world. Monzo is great why not use that. I had an NatWest/RBS account its online app is complex and awful. Monzo is easy and simple to use.
Embrace new tech, im older and have done so. Otherwise you become bitter and left behind. GEN-Z and Milienals are going to be using alot of tech to deal with there day to day life and are not going to provide the analogue systems boomers my gen are use in there day to day lives for the last 40 years. Im sorry but thats what you sound like... an old man that not embraced tech and blaming others for the world no longer feeling like it use to. I can just imagine your poor wife getting the same boring rant about the bank everytime you need to interrupt her for the six digit code.
i get a bit bored of reading all the tin hat stuff on here too.
you'll learn the hard way mate
