I am trying to do this for my kids. My daughter got a 1oz 9ct heart and my son a 9ct Lego brick. Like the idea of them having assets in physical form. Been buying/ having them jewellery made from birth too.

It might sound stupid but I think of the Jews who couldn't escape Germany as they didn't have assets to sell or use as bribes. I see it as a get the hell out of dodge card should they or their children ever need it.

Yep, well I was actually after a $2.5 Indian head and couldn't find any at the coin fair, so got pissed off and bought the first odd thing I saw 😛

Finding myself in Bllackpool (don't ask) I decided to pop into Chards. I bought a proof 2000 half sov, but when I checked it over in store I was suprised to see a tiny red spot on the st George side. That in itself was a no no for me but understandable as I have seen this happen on proof sovs before from the alloy metal used. 

What did confuse the hell out of me was what looked like black gunk around the rim of the coin. After pointing this out i was offered my choice of 2 other ones they had. No fault implied with Chards, they changed it right away and were very accommodating.  What I can't get my head around is how a boxed proof half sov got in that state to begin with. Was everyone in QC at the royal mint pissed in 2000? 

Got a 2016 1/4 proof krugerrand with box and cert for £250 from the Midland coin fair.....chuffed

1/4oz gold brit proof. Liking this years design a hell of a lot more than last years.

Buy what you want and budget allows. Even a 1g bar is something set aside for the future or for an emergency. Rather have a 1g gold bar than spend it on pork scratchings.

(though does depend on the make of pork scratchings obviously)

Bought an ms66 20 francs Swiss coin for £185 at the Midland coin fair. Happy with that.

Bought a 1oz gold oriental border brit. Worth a go.

Thanks for that. I was tempted by the other one for sale too, but i read up on them yesterday, and wanted one that might have actually seen use rather than just being a token. Thats just me. thanks for the comments.

bought an MS63 BG 229 1/4 dollar. Liked the look of it and fancied something different. @Numistacker maybe you can tell me if it was a good buy!

Got my 11th kg of silver today. Target for me is 20kg. Should pay for Christmas prese ts for 20 years at retirement maybe....

A friend in tokyo bought a silver bar at my request. Very grateful for his help. It's a 300g bar and wanted it for the odd size. 

Today I bought a 2017 half sov and a 1oz gold buffallo. Always liked the look of them.

1931 50 lira coin bought at the coin fair yesterday. Pretty low mintage for these.
