Thanks for the news! Are we expecting only double, full and half sovereigns to be available as bullion?

At present, I don't know.

We might need to wait until we see any formal announcement by the Royal Mint.

They might issue halves, although they mainly sell in small quantities for gifts, collectors, and jewellery. Serious bullion investors buy (full) sovereigns, one ounce Britannias, or other low premium coins, or bars.

Double sovereigns sound unlikely to me.

The RM have produced bullion quintuple sovereigns in some previous years, but premiums were above sovereigh premiums, therefore never sold in volume.

I notice you didn't ask about quarter sovereigns, although some marketing company might want some for promotional purposes (Gold sovereign for only £99!).

🙂

Rumour has it that you can get a similar effect on a 2022 Quintuple Sovereign by holding a lighter up to it for 3 seconds :D

WHO said "How do you think he does it?"

Or in this case, how do you think Doug did it?

I hope he doesn't see this, or he just might try it.

I am dizzying when looking at the coin, and i am sure i am not a fan of coloured coin😅...haha.

By the way, with similar design, is it meaning there will be no Royal Arms bullion for 2022?

One Royal Mint source there yes, another said no, which does not clarify anything.

The source quoted here is clearer:

But the other source was more senior.

We will find out soon.

BY THE QUEEN A PROCLAMATION ALTERING THE PROCLAMATION OF THE FOURTH DAY OF OCTOBER 1953 TO DETERMINE A NEW DESIGN FOR CERTAIN GOLD COINS ELIZABETH R.

Whereas under section 3(1)(b) and (h) of the Coinage Act 1971 We have power, with the advice of Our Privy Council, by Proclamation to determine the design of coins to be made at Our Mint, and to alter any Proclamation previously made under the said section:

And Whereas by Our Proclamation dated the fourth day of October 1953 We determined a new design for the gold coins specified in Our said Proclamation, being the five-pound piece, the two-pound piece, the sovereign and the half-sovereign:

And Whereas it appears to Us desirable to determine a new design for the said gold coins:

We, therefore, in pursuance of the said section 3(1)(b) and (h) and of all other powers enabling Us in that behalf, do hereby, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council, proclaim, direct and ordain as follows:

1. The following paragraph shall be substituted for the paragraph headed ‘GOLD COINS’ of Our said Proclamation of the fourth day of October 1953.

GOLD COINS

‘Every five-pound piece, two-pound piece, sovereign and half-sovereign shall have for the obverse impression Our effigy with the inscription “· ELIZABETH II ∙ DEI ∙ GRA · REGINA ∙ FID ∙ DEF” and for the reverse a depiction of Our Royal Coat of Arms and the date of the year. The coins shall have a grained edge.’

2. This Proclamation shall come into force on the twenty-fourth day of June Two thousand and twenty-one.

Given at Our Court at Buckingham Palace, this twenty-third day of June in the year of Our Lord Two thousand and twenty-one and in the seventieth year of Our Reign.

GOD SAVE THE QUEEN

There’s a similar proclamation for the Quarter Sovereign.

So it looks like a shield design (for certain) and the regular portrait (potentially) for the 2022 Sovereign range.

When do the new Sovereign releases usually come out?

It has been offcially announced that the 2022 Bullion Sovereign is to be Released 4th January 2022.

We already know that the design will be the same as the 2022 proof sovereign range, with the Royal Coat of Arms for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Edit:

This mornng I received a further e-mail, which included this rather ambiguous and confusing content:

"The bullion sovereign launching in January has been the same for many years and been different to the numismatic version. The emailer confirming this launch should be out today... The coin is beautiful!"

This appears to contradict the information given recently that the bullion and proof designs would have the same designs.

It is possible that this latest e-mail is intended to mean that the release dates are different, but all should become clearer very soon.

I have just seen:

"We have been informed that the revised launch date is now 11 January 2022."

I have not had chance to check this, but it is llkely to be accurate, and is the most recent information we have.
