  1. I would have loved a Five Sovereign to go with my 2017, however, the Matt finish has really got me thinking. Note below the mints definition of BU - "an entry level collectable". The 2017 was a show stopper. I'm happy with the proof full and half sovereign for this year. From RM website; "Sometimes referred to as ‘BU’, ‘B.U.’, or ‘B.UNC’, Brilliant Uncirculated coins are of a higher standard than circulating and bullion coins. An entry-level collectable, like Proof coins, the dies used to strike Brilliant Uncirculated coins are polished and finished by hand. The Brilliant Uncirculated blanks are machine-fed and struck twice. As a result, they are produced at a much quicker rate than Proof coins – around 100 per hour. They offer a good level of design detail, but have a lower definition than Proof coins."
  2. BINGO - Not bad for an impulse purchase!
  3. Here are mine in reverse order! The obverses are perfect and like most of the other coins the skips appear to be on the reverses - I wonder why this is? The fields on Victoria are certainly less lustrous. The caps are VERY poor quality and don't show the coin off well at all, a lot of dust on the inside of the cap - I noticed this on a lot of the photographs. The coin itself stunning but the presentation surely taken the shine off this release. More than half a grand for £70 worth of Silver but in my opinion still going to be key coins. I really just wish the capsules allowed for a real WOW factor.
  4. The capsules are ultra poor quality. I don't advocate opening BUT there is a lot of dust on the inside of the cap - SHOCKING.
  5. There's not a great deal of excitement about this coin and yet it was most eagerly awaited. I noticed comments about the "haze" on the reverse of the coin - I had a quick look at mine and thought the obverse was the usual brilliant field but the reverse less so. I will take a photograph on the two together and post later on. Such a shame that there are a number of reasons why the release seems to have been a let down for coin collectors.
  6. Certainly unusual interest in some of the latest releases. I have a strong feeling the Quartered Arms and Portrait Crowns may mark a watershed.
  7. Super exciting - great entertainment!
  8. I'd have loved a 2022 Sovereign brochure, but wondered with such a high interest in coins and the mega quick time to sell all the coins if it is necessary for the RM to produce these? No doubt would have been a lovely item to keep with our coins.
  9. Over the moon with the presentation and packaging. The anticipation of waiting for a coin is often the best part - however, H&B knocked it out of the park! Great presentation, once again. I am over the moon with my 2022 Bullion Sovereign.
  10. 2019 - I just checked, they were actually £224 - three year's ago just now.
  11. Just been having a look round at Sharps Pixely, Chards and the Royal Mint - prices are all competitive for this coin. Sharps great for a single coins, Chards the best for a tube of 25. H&B offer is now just £7 cheaper than the best offer for a single coin. I hope that we get an update on despatch soon. Here is my real issue for the 2022 Sovereign - do you buy the Bullion Sovereign now, or will there be dips as we progress through the year - the last H&B deal I took part in was £249 for a Sovereign. Anything over that feels very toppy to me!
  12. Well done! That was a real trip down Memory Lane....... aaah, the good old days.
  13. If you can find a special moment, the brochure with the coin is one of the most informative points of interest about a coin and the designer I have ever read. The Gothic Crown is an exceptional package from the Royal Mint. My example will always be treasured.
  14. A nice example just arrived. I am very pleased. Coin is very eye sweet and the design is amazing. I wish everyone else the same outcome.
  15. Would have been a long queue at Cardiff PO this afternoon. Part of the excitement following the tracking and looking out the window for the red van. Something to look forward to in this bleak weather.
  16. I'm confused too - there is one Product Code - UK21GR2S and another Product Code GCSP2O. The former is despatch January and the Second despatch December - can anyone please shed any light on this?
  17. How did the speed of the sell out compare to the previous release. I was fortunate in securing a 2oz and think the 5oz was still available when I logged in. I had three attempts with the Credit Card Authentication - such low mintage numbers so I am really pleased - so far!
  18. Many thanks for this information. This is the answer to the $64m question! Should be a great year for gold coin collecting.
  19. 2017 all over again - although with such a massive number of coins rushed maybe we expect too much for every coin to be perfect. I think I will settle with mine too - the replacements may come from other returns - I think this was some of our experience in the past. I feel our collective pain!
  20. My Goodness - that clarifies it, but that is such a surprise for me. I expect QC of the proofs will be in much sharper focus now. Mine has what looks like a part of a fingerprint on it and some skips in the frosting too........... this could be interesting!
  21. Good Morning. After a break from the Forum I was lucky not to have missed the 2022 Proof Sovereign release. As I had no prior knowledge of it I had to make a quick decision. yesterday, of whether I liked the coin or not and then take a view on value for money. I decided to buy one Sovereign. I have to say the design is a real winner and when I viewed Mr. Noad's video on YouTube later it just reinforced what a great design this coin is with great design heritage too. In this day and age where there is a sea of money out there and an insatiable demand for good assets it was surely no surprise that there was no availability after less than 24 hours. The contrast to the 1989 Sovereign where it was just not popular really pulls the current economic situation into ultra sharp focus. So I'd say; "Very well done" to all that bought one, or better still a set. I really can hardly wait to see it in hand - I think it will be a screamer in proof. Is it a 50/50 whether or not it will be Bullion release? What are the options - could there be further BU limited releases? So interesting and in closing I would also say that this thread has been such a pleasure to read all the way from the start, till now, and hopefully much more to come with lovely photographs of beautiful coins in hand. Well done.
