  1. The thing that doesn’t seem to make sense is the potential damage they’re doing to their brand.

They’ve stopped the series part way through, what’s to say that they won’t do this again with any future series?

People will likely be thinking twice before getting invested in a future series.

The British Monarchs was always going to be difficult for most people to complete in its entirety. It’s a pity RM didn’t foresee this and I feel for people who’ve been loyal to this series since the start.

  2. @arphethean the later Australian Sovereigns have a very weak strike. Probably getting the most out of a die.

The lines, or striations are common on later George V sovereigns.

I think it looks OK. The streaky appearance on similar dated coins has been questioned before on the forum but I can't find the post. @Allgoldcoins coins has some photos of an 1930-P coin with similar streaks here:

    I think I started that post. 😆

No significant Royal events / anniversaries this year.

The RM already did SotD Sovereigns for the 75th anniversaries of VE and VJ days in 2019.

It would be (imo) ridiculous to repeat it for the 80th. 🫤

VE Day and VJ Day were in 1945.
The 80th Anniversary is next year, maybe we’ll see SOTD and special new sets coming in 2025.

I think no silver was added to sovereign in QEII times, but I may be wrong.

Would be good for @LawrenceChard to do a video with his XRF machine to show the last year of the sovereign that still had silver included.

Gillick sovereigns surely must have contained a small amount of silver. Otherwise they would have that copper ‘tint’ look like modern sovereigns.

    A capsule is like a:

    - Condom

    - Nodder

    - French Letter

    - Jonny

    - Sheath

    - Banana Burka

    - Kitten Mitten

    - One fingered glove

    It stops those awful discolourations…

So I am told by good friends.

But @dicker by that logic, if you don’t put them in a ‘capsule’ then you get another sovereign 9 months later?

You’ve just got on average 18 years to pay for it. 😆
