What a beautiful Elizabeth 1st and good provenance.

  2. Researching family medals is always interesting good luck with it.

My grandfather was also in the trenches, he was awarded the DCM for one action which saw the CO awarded the VC on the same day, unfortunately the CO (chap called Vann ) didn't make it through the war dying a few days later,  My grandfather was his runner and with him at the end.

  3. The gold looks to be a one of the pope's 1/25? It is probably proof  but a lot of us would see that as a bullion coin, I would pop the cap and reposition, latex gloves is fine. I will pack out coins to stop rattles if they are job lots eg my 1 kilo deals I put up occasionally, same with bullion silver, of a coin is BU or proof then more care is taken. Silver looks to be bullion so that wouldn't be an issue for me. That said lot of my collection is bullion but try to keep it shiny:)

RM Gold Proof UK £1 Floral Icons Collection

Issued between 2013 and 2014 these four gold proof coins each weigh in at a respectable 18g AGW. When I saw them offered below spot by @shawy2510I decided to offload a few duplicate sovs and half sovs and fill all available boots.

Switching from RM bullion at spot+4% to gold proof at spot-0.5% has rarely been a tough decision. As a somewhat keen collector of PM round pounds this was a particularly felicitous bonus.

They are lovely and at that price under spot almost to good to be true. The round pounds I've always liked and in gold just 🥰

I reckon it's fear of an everything crash.  People are starting to shore up liquidity before the inevitable.  I don't blame them personally.  Only gold is holding up to this proxy war environment, and it makes sense.  Having said that there might be an oversold bounce at some point, but I don't think it'll last.

Scrap cars for the crusher have been dropping for a while now, and they took a huge drop down yesterday.  With all the energy price increases just around the corner, there's absolutely no doubt that there's going to be some very serious economic problems if we don't change course soon.

Unfortunately, I don't think gramps or the flying fatman are in any mood to change their minds.  And this means that there will be serious economic damage for certain.  I'm not sure how the pound will hold up, but I now expect another equal leg down for Silver, despite roaring inflation.  It's only at the end of the crash that silver will play it's phenomenal inflation catch-up game.  Not before.  No idea when that will be, but I can see the miners getting hammered soon.  There isn't a market for silver in a crashing economy, and it doesn't matter what the price is, there won't be the volume.  There just isn't a market for high value items that need Silver, when no one can afford food or heating.

I expect a hunkering down this winter, as people choose between heating their homes, or eating something better than spam.  All I've been hearing locally, is concern over energy and food bills.  This is IRL, not on the internet.  There's real concern, and I think this means there's real trouble coming.  The market has completely fallen out of second hand commercial vehicles, according to a trader I know, and this indicates to me that all sorts of people are experiencing a contraction in their own personal money supply.

I just don't see much demand for Silver in this environment, and I think that inflation and the cost of energy to mine, are pretty much all that's keeping a floor on the price just now.

That sums my feelings up nicely and more eloquently thank you

2021 RM Silver Proof Coin Set with Machin Ten Bob Bit

With a mintage limited to a maximum (and as yet unconfirmed) mintage of 550, I was pleasantly surprised to pick this set up at auction at a delivered price equating to a 60%+ discount on last year's issue price. Even for the RM that is a hefty tumble, so I am led to conclude that the auction house's decision to leave the set in its unopened state and offer only a photo of the outer cardboard box worked heavily in my favour.

Standing head and shoulders above the rest is the Decimal Day 50p with the Arnold Machin obverse, a coin only available in this set. A very good-looking coin.

The RM has clearly subcontracted its research to the likes of the criminally inept Gates funded Full Fact. Quadrupedal invaders are precisely what HG Wells did not describe. Notwithstanding, the coin - much like the Logie Baird 50p - is otherwise not unattractive.

The £5 crown and Walter Scott £2 coin both show the unmitigated lack of imagination that fairly represents the lack of thought so prevalent throughout the UK in 2021.

You did very well on that imo, the decimal day 50p is lovely

  7. I've all sorts of random gold run, mini collection targets aside from 20 1/10th I'm also going for a sov run 4 different 1/4 sovereigns, I've a normal current 1/4, a 1/4 Laurel and a queen Victoria/queen Elizabeth so far after an isle of man to finish it up, then there's the 2 X 1/2 again both different then a belter of a full sovereign to finish. And that's along the 1/10 to full Oz Kookaburra set I'd like . So many coins so little cash 🤣

    Sterling Silver Pistrucci Key Tray

A splendid auction pick-up at spot, this 2007 Royal Mint Sterling silver salver weighs in at a respectable 498g and was one of a limited edition of 1,000. Complete with a splendid full set of six hallmarks it can be used for keys, small change, boiled sweets, spare screws or even serve as a water bowl for a small dog.

I shall be using mine as a jelly mould.
