My first time there, too. They let us have 3 each!

Only today's ones had the horse reverse, so there will certainly be fewer than 1,400 of these in existence. A few people on my tour didn't even get any, so in all likelihood this presentation is rarer than today's SOTD Sovereign! 🤣

Brilliant it's on my list in May when we head to west coast

@dickerI joined a facebook group called English hammered and early milled coin collectors , some stunning pictures of coins on there that are not seen every day 👍

This was posted found by a lucky detectorist today Edward VI boy King and a couple of pictures from some other collectors

It's the best pre 1820 coin group out there IMHO the knowledge of British hammered coins is outstanding.

  3. Here's a spin for you, going through a bag of pre 1920s silver (which I got from @stefffana thank you very happy) I noticed almost without exception the reverse of shillings and sixpences was more worn that the obverse, so weaker strike? Less deeply engraved dies?

Just occurred to me the pressure of the strike should be same for both sides shouldn't it?

  4. Good afternoon all.

I've seen these hallmark's today on a couple of items, I've had a quick Google and frankly going to take a month! So I thought I know a forum where someone will know!

Are they silver or pewter marks? The item's look silver but honestly not a scooby.

If pewter and in wrong place apologies to the admin team, please move as you see fit.

To anyone that takes the time to look thank you. Attached picture from the bottom of one small plate.

I had a coin arrive from GS.be that was milk spotted beyond belief, so bad that i decided it couldn't get worse. It's actually got better looking with the tones that have come out. It's the only other fondling/desk piece, but it's not often in the pocket.

Shared it the other day, but will share again for the patina appreciation.

Enjoyed this thread thank you all. @SilverDrumwhat coin is this? I absolutely love it.

  6. Read this thread with interest, as a new stacker and new (ish) collector the simple reason I'm with silver is cost, much as I would love to be pumping spare money into stacking gold it would be very much a purchase every few months giving me a less versatile stack. By concentrating on silver I get the buying buzz more often, can afford spur of the moment purchase's if a deal presents itself and should I need to cash any out then yes a quick sale will undoubtedly cost me, but with time to sell I don't believe I will be massively out of pocket.

Gold for now is the future, decent year with the day job that will hopefully change but covid has given my business a fair hit in the balance sheet.

  7. Evening all

New member found forum via youtube had an interest for a few years, looking at stacking as a way to hold funds for the long term as well as expanding the coin collection, plan at the moment for a little as often as I can. Don't have a system sussed as yet I'm just buying a different 1oz bullion coin when I get one of each I like thinking may look at bars who knows. Also try to pick up old crowns etc if i can.

Based South UK Berks / Oxon borders

Thanks to admin for the add
