Sat at my computer at work 9a.m. There were 40,000+ in the queue ahead of me. Stayed logged in thought 'what the hell lets see what happens' have been reading this thread intermittently all morning having quite a good laugh. Got a bit distracted around the 2 hour mark only to finally see this. 🤣

Summer & Winter Games prepared me for my adolescence🤣
And the loading time between the different disciplines prepared me for today's RM queue

So, for those of you stuck in the black hole that is the RM Queue or indeed just in but frozen in time on the event horizon that is RM checkout when swamped, here's my summary and take:
What's available
There are going to be PLENTY of these coins in both BU and Proof for both gold and silver. The £5 & 50p's will ALL be made to order. The "Ounce" category will also have unlimited numbers for certain weights Summary: DON'T PANIC - In due course you will be able to get something. What's worth buying
If you want something that is to be part of history and something that will be a keepsake then any of the unlimited coins fit that category. Plenty of weights, designs and budgets to choose from. These probably won't be very profitable as flippers. In 25 years time they could be valuable to some collectors though. Bare in mind the large mintage numbers will make them less so. Summary: Buy for enjoyment and being a part of history. What's not available
Good chance then when the dust of the RM website settles there will be very few if any of the Limted Edition Presentations available. Those lucky people that got one will no doubt see some high flipping potential for these in the coming months. When will you get the coins
So, differently to other releases the Royal Mint are taking payment at checkout and KEEPING the money until they dispatch. Normally you find the money reappears in your account and then they recharge you later. I suspect that they have a fair few issues with changed cards or people with not enough money so they want to avoid this. Be prepared for a long wait for these coins. The best estimates are by the end of January 2023 at this point. That's about it for now!

If the payment ever goes through anyway.

They can't really win in the court of coin collecting opinion on this one.
Nobody likes big mintages, but if there was ever an occasion for an unlimited range, then surely this is it.
Lots of people want them, as 50,000 in the queue testifies to.
It would seem unfair to end up with only the lucky first few onto the website getting anything.

DeepSpace got a reaction from 365DaysofSilver in 2023 Sovereign design - What say you?
Well I'm already logged in at the Royal Mint and waiting in the queue for the new Charles III proofs. 😆 Not that it matters, their website is gonna crash harder than the Challenger when they do finally go on sale.

Lately it’s been more like “changing constantly”. 😋

If you sent the coin to @DrDave, he could take a great photo of it, but would proobably expect to keep the coin.
That's a bargain price for a professional level of photo.

DeepSpace got a reaction from Darr3nG in OMP In or Out?
Just order direct from the RM. Some of the stuff I've bought new from them lately gives off a certain 'circulated & pre-owned' vibe to me. Some advertise their coins as 'New Old Stock' but they seem to do a good line in 'Old New Stock'.

DeepSpace reacted to James32 in Sovereign vs Britannia vs Krugerrand
As in uk and if planning a large stack over 20 years, make sure the bulk of it is CGT free coins, sovereigns/britannias/other royal mint variants etc.
Sovereigns will have the lowest premium usually in smaller denominations, but on here you can sometimes grab a 1oz gold coin for even less premium.
All depends on budget and where you buy from, and make sure to treat yourself now and again with something you like, boredom will set in otherwise.

It's the other side of a sovereign that gets me, St George slaying a dragon. I always think "was it a small lie that has got out of hand".

What about a classic sovereign balance?
I'd love some of the experts to chip in and correct me or add anything I've missed but left to my own devices I guess it checks 3 things, the weight, diameter and thickness of either half or full sovereigns
Weight and diameter like so
And thickness through this slot

DeepSpace got a reaction from LemmyMcGregor in Strategy, I don't like Silver, am I wrong?
Some great answers on here, as a relative newbie myself I enjoy reading all the differing perspectives. Personally and on a pragmatic level I like gold for the lower premiums, no VAT and CGT exemption. It is also far easier to store.
I do buy silver coins and I will even occasionally buy a silver proof, not really as an investment I just enjoy the aesthetics of them. This wasn't something I intended to do, I originally intended to just buy a few coins, stick them in the bank and forget about them for 30 years but the more I looked around and researched where I should be spending my money the more I just started loving all the different designs and the history of numismatics. I ended up in the rabbit hole.
I guess I'm saying my goals changed. I just wanted to diversify a modest portfolio and ended up investing myself into a completely new hobby.
